I have been away from genealogy for better than five years, so please bear
with me as I get back in the grove. I reside in McAlester, Oklahoma. I am
searching for more information on my immigrant great grandparents one of
which did reside in the Monmouth area. Joseph George Ashman/Aishman. His
line I have done quite a bit of work on and am now wishing to focus on his
wife, Ann Shears Sheppard Ashman/Aishman. Below is what I have at this
time;
From the 1841 Monmouth Co, Wales they are listed as a family:
Joseph Ashman 25 Collier Not born in Country
Anne 25 "
Elizabeth 2 born in Country
Caroline 1 "
After this they moved to Virginia and are listed on the 1850 census.
Before the time of their arrival I have been able to learn the following:
On the birth record for Caroline her mother is listed as follows:
Ann Ashman(d) late Sheppherd formeraly Shears. Daughter Caroline was born
in The Rock Bedwelty, County of Monmouth. 21 Jan 1842.
There is Christening event for Elizabeth on 2 Dec 1829 in Bedwelty,
Monmouth. Listing parents as Joseph and Anne Ashman.
Have been unable to find a marriage record for Ann Shears to either her
first marriage to __________ Sheppard/Sheppherd or to Joseph George Ashman.
Of the two children born above only Caroline made it to Virginia where three
more siblings were born, the last having the name Elizabeth.
I found also that Joseph's mother and some of his siblings were in Monmouth
area in 1841:
Bedwelty
Mary Ashman 55 widow not born in Country
Anne 20 female servant "
George 20 Collier "
Richard 20 Collier "
Samuel 17 Collier "
There are other siblings that had homes of their own, including Joseph on
the 1841 census. Some remained in the area another 20 years or more.
Would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
Sincerely,
Patricia Spearman
