There will be a number of Police changes in the Rhondda following the retirement of
Police-Sergeant Oliver BATTEN, Penygraig. Police-Sergeant John SULLIVAN, Tonypandy, is to
take the place of BATTEN, at Penygraig, Police-Sergeant Glyn WILLIAMS, Treherbert will
take SULLIVAN'S place at Tonypandy, acting Sergeant James MOORE, Treorchy, promoted to
the rank of full Sergeant and transferred to Treherbert, P.C. James FAY, Pontrhondda,
takes over from MOORE as acting Sergeant.
Lilian DAVIES, aged 16, daughter of Mr&Mrs Albert DAVIES, of Bute-street, Treorchy,
was severly burnt when her clothing caught fire at Fforch Farm, Treorchy, succumbed to her
burns at Llwynypia Hospital, hours later. Lilians sister Iris DAVIES was burnt to death
about 3 years ago at Golders Green, London also at the age of 16 years, and in similar
circumstances.
Briton Ferry Poppy Day Workers, have selected Mr N.J. CLARKE, as their organiser this
year. Mr CLARKE who is badly disabled by war wounds, will be assisted by Mr Wallace C.
