MONMOUTHSHIRE
MARRIAGE IN HIGH LIFE - Tredegar Park, Monmouthshire, was last week a scene
of great gaiety, consequent upon the marriage of Miss Selina Maria MORGAN,
second daughter of Sir Charles and Lady MORGAN, to David Robertson
WILLIAMSON, Esq., of Lowerscrieff, Perthshire. The ceremony was solemnised
in Bassalleg church, by the Rev. Chancellor MORGAN, rector of Machen, uncle
of the bride, who was assisted by the Rev. Chancellor WILLIAMS, vicar of
Bassalleg. The bridal party was a remarkably gay assemblage. The drive along
the park from Tredegar to the village was surmounted with a variety of
triumphal arches, most tastefully made with evergreens &c. &c. and
exhibiting on boards or banners attached thereto, various sentiments
appropriate to the joyous occasion - all expressive of good wishes for the
young couple. In front of one arch extending across the road, between the
vicarage and the turn-pike gate, was a banner which very deservedly
attracted particular attention, and upon which were beautifully emblazoned
the arms of the respective families of the bridegroom and bride, by Miss
WILLIAMS, of the vicarage. There was a ball in the evening which was kept up
with unabated spirit. The band of the 48th regiment gave their services, by
the permission of the commanding officer. Mr. and Mrs. WILLIAMS * left at
about 1 P.M. in order to proceed by the express-train to London, where they
will travel to Perthshire. Throughout the vast estates of Sir Charles MORGAN
means were taken to make Wednesday a day of joy and happiness to all.
* I think this should be Williamson. Also see smaller entry in Marriage
column of this page.
