This is an understatement. My third great grandfather, Thomas Morgan, b. circa 1821 left
Monmouthshire for the US probably in 1843. He died in 1868. My cousins and I have been
trying to determine which family this Thomas Morgan came from. One cousin has even
submitted YDNA in hopes of finding the link. To date we are baffled as to which Thomas
could be ours. There is a Thomas Morgan, collier, who came into the US in 1843 who is
most likely our ancestor, however we have no extended family that we can be sure of. Our
Thomas settled in Minersville, Pa and became a partner in a mining firm. He married a
woman who was also Welsh and from Glamorganshire. His oldest sons were Isaac, William and
John. It would be wonderful if we knew of a way to discriminate between the various
Thomas Morgans in Parish records and even in the 1841 census.
From family lore, we think he was born near Pontypool, But even that
lacks certainty. Any advice as to what we may have missed would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Bev W

I think you'll have to be a bit more specific than that, Irene.
Some first
names might help, for instance.
