Over the years, my family had mentioned that my great uncle, William
Jones, had been killed in a local colliery. But I only recently found out
through a memorial inscription that so did his father, also named William,
just over 22 years later. More than that, they were both accidentally
killed in the Rose Heyworth pit in Abertillery.
William Jones, aged 16, November 9,1914.
William Jones, aged 55, January 22,1927.
Interestingly, none of my family that I?ve told about the death of William
senior seem to know anything about it at all. I?d have thought the
opposite would have been the case?
