I use ancestry online however I still have my full family tree database stored on my pc.
Ancestry provides the ability to store the whole tree on any family tree program that
accepts ged files. So I don't see the problem.

Subject: [MON] Demise of Family Tree Maker
Dear Listers,
Some of you may not have heard this morning's news from
Ancestry.com that
they are discontinuing the sale and support of the popular software known as
'Family Tree Maker' (FTM).
I quote from Ancestry's blog:
"...we’ve taken a hard look at the declining desktop software market and the
impact this has on being able to continue to provide product enhancements
and support that our users need. With that, we’ve made the decision to stop
selling Family Tree Maker as of December 31, 2015.
Ancestry will continue to support current owners of Family Tree Maker at
least through January 1, 2017."

I'm very sad to see Ancestry pull the rug on the long-lived FTM. I've used
FTM for over twenty years (since the early 1990s) and still do so
occasionally, although my preference in recent years has been for Family
Historian. FTM was the very first high quality family history program I
purchased - it was a big advance on the early version of Personal Ancestral
File (PAF) I'd been using previously.
I have a number of friends and acquaintances who are using recent versions
of FTM. I'm sure they'll be very disappointed.
The users' comments on Ancestry's blog suggest that many current FTM owners
are not prepared to rely on storing their family history details on
Ancestry's website-based family tree feature. They prefer a database stored
on their own devices, at home.
I'll be interested to hear the views of FTM users on this List.
Kind regards,
John
