Charles Thomas SALMAN's employment record is available on Ancestry. He
started as a [locomotive] cleaner at Llantrisant on 06 Nov 1881, and
rose through the ranks at Cardiff and Tondu to be a [driver] 3rd class
at Newport High Street by 1994. However, he was then discovered to be
nearly blind in one eye, and demoted to boilerwasher. I don't know when
he left the GWR, but by the 1911 census he was driving a steam roller
for Newport Corporation.
William Charles HIGTON's GWR Employment Record states that he was
discharged from his post as an engineman on 14 Aug 1875, and re-joined
as a Coal Inspector at Llantrisant on 18 Oct 1875. He lived at Railway
Cottages, Llantrisant from (at least) 1881 until his death in 1894.

Hi Nick
You say Charles Thomas worked for the GWR - what was his occupation?
