Hi Nick
You say Charles Thomas worked for the GWR - what was his occupation?

Thanks to Jane for the suggestions, but these SALMONs aren't
mine.
I find the story of Charles Thomas SALMAN (CTS) to be quite sad. He was
born in Whitchurch on 09 Mar 1868, his parents, Charles SELMAN (spelt
thus) and Miriam EDWARDS having married in Cardiff R.D. sometime in Q4
1867, so perhaps a shotgun wedding.
Charles SELMAN, like his parents (Isaac & Margaret), had converted to
the Mormon faith and, on 30 Jun 1868, he sailed from Liverpool to start
a new life in Utah, leaving his wife and 3-month-old son behind. His
life in Utah is well documented, including the wife and family he had
there, but there is little or no mention of his first marriage. As far
as I know, he never saw Miriam and his son again.
Miriam remarried at Pontypridd on 03 May 1880, to William Charles
HIGTON. I think CTS was raised by his mother, as both William Charles
HIGTON and Charles Thomas SALMAN worked for the GWR at Llantrisant from
1880, although CTS is not with the HIGTON family in the 1881 cenus, and
and can't find him in either the 1881 or 1891 census.
He married in 1895, as per my previous post, and I hope they had 24
happy years together before Elizabeth died, despite them not having any
children.
