The wedding took place at Ponterwyd Calvinistic Methodist Church on Tuesday of the Rev. W.
WILLIAMS, Pastor, son of Mr and Mrs William WILLIAMS, Wyndham-street, Penygraig, to Miss
Elizabeth Ann DAVIES, daughter of Mr and Mrs DAVIES, Aberceiro, Ponterwyd. The Rev. John
DAVIES,B.A., Aberystwyth, officiated. The bride was attended by Miss Mary EVANS, vicarage,
Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, and Miss Lilian DAVIES, Dolaufon, Llanbadarn.
Pleading guilty to driving a motor-cycle negligently at the junction of Newport and
City-roads, Cardiff, John J. PHILLIPS, miner, was fined £2 by the City stipendiary on
Tuesday.
David DAVIES, of 68, Dinas-road, Dinas, a haulier employed at the Anthony Pit of the Naval
Collieries, was found dead by his workmates at the mine on Tuesday afternoon. It is
understood that there was no indication of accident or injury, and it is believed that
death took place from natural causes. DAVIES was about 46 years of age, and was a married
man with one daughter.
Mr. W.R. DAUNCEY, coroner, recorded a verdict of "Accidental death" at the
inquest held at Rhymney on Tuesday on Thomas Morgan MINHINNICK,(eighteen),conveyor
chargman, of Tynewydd-street, Rhymney, who died in the local cottage hospital following
injuries received by a falling stone at Mardy Colliery, Rhymney.
Lewis JAMES, 60, pumpman, Caerphilly, pleaded guilty at Caerphilly on Tuesday to be in a
state of intoxication at the Windsor Colliery, Abertridwr, on April 5th. Mr G.S.
GOODFELLOW, prosecuting, said defendant was in charge of a pump at the pit bottom. If
anything went wrong with the pump during the shift consequences might have been serious.
Fortunately the man was seen at the lamproom before descending the pit. He was ordered to
pay 6s. costs and 5s. expenses.
William James HOPKINS, 25, a bookmaker's runner, of Caerphilly, pleaded guilty at
Caerphilly Police-court on Tuesday to street betting on May 3rd and was fined £25. Henry
DAVIES, 42, labourer, Caerphilly, was fined £5. for aiding and abetting.
Taking the last two cases the penalty does not seem fair.?
