Mr John S. JONES, of 67, Tewkesbury-place, Cardiff, who formerly resided in
Mackintosh-place, states that he is not the "John S. JONES," of 221,
Mackintosh-place, who was charged before the Cardiff stipendiary for cruelty to his wife
and drunkeness.
Thomas COLEMAN, a platelayer, of Glanyrafon-road, Pencoed, was struck by a lump of coal
from the tender of an engine, and received injuries which necessitated his removal to
Bridgend Hospital for an operation.
Councillor Harry JONES, Newport-road, Trethomas, vice-chairman of the Bedwas Council, met
with a serious accident while motor-cycling from his work near Bassaleg. He received
severe cuts on the head and body bruises.
By a majority of one over Mr. G. LLEWELYN, of Brownslade, Mr. J.H. JOHN, of Glanrhyd, was
elected on Saturday as Chairman of the Whitland Rural District Council.
Alderman Thomas DUFFIELD was re-elected chairman of the Magor Rural District Council at
Newport on Saturday.
The prompt action of William Henry BIRCH, a labourer, of 18, Appledore-road, Mynachdy, is
stated to have probably saved the life of his wife , Ethel, aged 38. She lies at the
Cardiff Workhouse Infirmary, suffering from burns to the throat and arms. The husband
alleges that she attempted to drink carbolic acid and that he knocked the cup from her
hands.
There have been three police promotions in the Barry district affecting "E"
Division of the Glamorgan Force. Acting-sergeant Frank JOHNS, to sergeant, and Constables
W.D. EVANS, and J. SULLIVAN to acting-sergeants, the latter transferred to Abertridwr.
The respect and esteem in which the late Mr. Frederick William PHILLIPS, Tresillian Hotel,
Penarth-road, Cardiff, was demonstrated by the large attendance at the burial, which took
place at Cardiff on Saturday. The Rev. J.G. GARLAND (vicar of St. Samson's, Cardiff)

O'BRIEN, (sister-in-law), London; Mrs PACEY, Farnborough, and Mrs W. HOPTON,
(sisters-in-law); Mr Vivien MINTON, (nephew), Bristol; Mr G. JOHNSON-GODDING, Mr Fred
PRICE, Llantwit Major; Mr David GRIFFITHS, Mr V. GILBY, Mrs MacDONALD, and Mrs GINZLER.
The funeral of Mrs W.W. JONES, of Westwood Lodge, Victoria-road, Penarth, widow of Mr.
William Watkin JONES, ship-owner, took place at the Cardiff Cemetery on Saturday. Services
at the house and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. Jonathan EVANS,of Llandrindod
Wells (late of Christchurch Penarth). The chief mourners were Messrs. G. Winn JONES, E.W.
JONES, and W.H. Winn JONES, (sons), J.B. WINN, (brother), Charles WINN, (general manager
for Messrs. Elliot and Jeffery, ship repairers, Cardiff), Mr Keith JONES, Penarth
(nephews), and Mr. A.T. SHACKELL, (son-in-law). Among those also present were Dr. Alfred
REES and Messrs. F.N. BRICE, Alfred BOVEY, S.R. HAM, F.D. CROCKER, J. Harvard DAVIS, S.J.
DYER, Claude HAILEY, (Whitchurch), Alexander GREGOR, W. MORGAN, (Cardiff), A. HARPER, F.H.
COTTAM, J. Pearson GRIFFITHS, W. EDWARDS, and John DAVIES.
Miss Nellie DAVIES, the young domestic servant who disappeared from her employer's
house at Roath, Cardiff, a week ago, has now been discovered at Mardy where she has been
staying with a cousin. Her explanation was that she was late returning last Saturday week,
and fearing the consequences she journeyed to Mardy.
The publication in the "Evening Express" of the photograph of Stanley Charles
DAVID, who had been missing from his home in Severn-road, Cardiff, led to his discovery.
He was wandering about at Reading, but has now returned to his father.
