Alfred Henry YOXALL, 53, carpenter, of Cardiff, who was stated to owe £200 arrears to his
wife, was ordered by the Caerphilly magistrates on Tuesday to pay 15s. towards her
maintenance, the wife saying she would forgo the arrears if he paid regulary in future.
An important and successful sale of Government land and residences was held at the George
Hotel, Chepstow, on Tuesday, by Messrs. Bruton, Knowles and Co., Gloucester, who announced
at the outset that there was no reserve on any of the lots. an accomodation pasture field
comprising 5a. 3r. 9p., was sold to Mr J. HOLLINS, Chepstow, for £460; and Crossway Farm,
of 106a. 1r. 6p., together with farmhouse, went to Messrs. W.H. JONES and Sons, of
Llanvaches, for £4,300. An accomodation pasture land field of 7a. 2r. 13p. in Mounto-road,
was purchased by Messrs. Frank Lewis and Son, Newport (for a client), at £820. and another
field of 6a. 2r. 4p., with a driving way from Mounton-road, was knocked down to Mr J.
HOLLINS, Chepstow, for £300. Two cottages at the Look-out were secured by Miss GEORGE, of
Chepstow, for £580. Ash Cottage situated at the top of Mount Pleasant, was purchased by Mr
J. HORNIBLOW, of Chepstow, at £1,000, and Hazel Villa, close by, went
to Mr Fothergill EVANS, Chepstow, at £900. Mr G.G. FRANCIS bought an accommodation
pasture field of 3a.2r. 24p., off Mounton-road, for £470. and another similar lot of 4a.
2r. 2p. in the same vicinity, was knocked down to Mr J.E.G. LAWRENCE for £380. Mr R.E.
WATSON, of Chepstow bought a pasture field fronting the Newport and Mounton roads, for
£850. and the Church-street laundry, including a dwelling-house and two cottages, were
purchased by Mr E.T. LEWIS, Chepstow at £300. Mr LEWIS also secured a warehouse in Lower
Church-street, known as the Bob Inn, for £150. Newport Freehold.The property Rothbury, in
Stow Park Circle, Newport, formerly the residence of the late Mrs Henry DUCKHAM, was
withdrawn at £3,000. At Cowbridge The freehold pasture field of 7a. at the junction of the
Penllyne and Llangan road near Cowbridge, with vacant possession was sold to Mr E.W.
MILES, solicitor, Cowbridge for a client for £600. A freehold stable and loft
adjoining the Railway Inn, Cowbridge, was sold to Mr W.H. JOHN for £30. Mr E.W. MILES,
Cowbridge was the solicitor concerned.
