Herbert JONES, 28, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Police-court on Monday to insulting females
earlier in the morning. Detective George BRADLEY said that at half-past seven on Monday
morning he stood in Oakfield-street-lane and saw what happened as two women were
approaching. When arrested JONES, said, "This will be the ruination of me." As
he was leading JONES away the two women came to him saying, " This is the man who
insulted us this morning and also last Wednesday," A remand until tomorrow
(Wednesday) was ordered.
Hundreds of people during the luncheon hour at Port Talbot on Monday witnessed a fatality
which occurred in the main streets. A motor-cycle coming into the town from the direction
of Margam, and was ridden by Leon CALLOWAY, relief clerk in the employ of the Rhondda and
Swansea Bay Company, and lodging in Port Talbot, dashed into a milk cart belonging to
David EVANS, diaryman, of Margam. A young man, named Cyril DAVIES, a native of Bridgend,
who was riding on the pillion seat, was thrown clear and escaped with minor injuries, but
CALLOWAY was hurled upon one of the broken shafts of the milk cart, and was so injured
that he expired almost immediately.
Joseph HOPKINS, 18, a collier's helper, of Cwm Nant Garn, Llanelly Hill, near
Abergavenny, who was killed by a fall of roof at the Milfraen Colliery, Blaenavon.
The wedding took place at St. Mary Abbot, Kensington, London, of Mr Cecil WRIGHT, civil
engineer, London, to Miss Rachel EVANS, elder daughter of Mr Victor EVANS, Swansea
Education Staff, and at one time Food Controller of Swansea, and of Mrs EVANS, 17,
Woodland-terrace, Swansea. After the ceremony Mr and Mrs Wright visited Paris by
aeroplane, and will later leave for the North of Spain for their honeymoon.
The marriage arranged between Miss Picton EVANS, B.A., the only daughter of the Rev. D.
Picton EVANS, M.A., of Manora, Morriston, and the late Mrs Picton EVANS, and Mr E.R.
OLIVER, manager of Lloyds Bank, Bethesda, Bangor, will take place on June 3rd at Charing
Cross Welsh Presbyterian Church, London.
