UK censuses from 1841 to 1911 are online at various commercial web sites.
1911 census for Wales is not yet available but it is hoped that it will
appear before the end of the year. A census was held every ten years.
Transcription of the 1881 census of England and Wales is available free on
Familysearch.
Familysearch has started to put some parts of England and Wales 1841 and
1861 censuses online for free as part of their pilot project. Transcriptions
are free but census images need payment to one of the commercial providers
Freecen is a UK-based voluntary effort to put transcriptions of England and
Wales censuses online for free. Coverage is by no means complete.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/familyhistory/ has a link to 'The Basics' which gives
details of commercial suppliers. BBC is the public broadcasting body in UK.
If you have a limited number of searches which you want to do, it may be
best to try to get a free trial period with one of the suppliers.
GENUKI is an authoritative web site on all aspects of family history
research in UK.
