I believe you're quite right on that Peter, and it rather grates the
locals to think of it. In 2004, we gathered there for my parents'
50th Wedding Anniversary, and several of us couples in attendance
renewed our vows. I took bits from the English language version (not
quite brave enough to try it in Welsh.) of the Church in Wales
prayerbook that would have been current in its heyday and we had a
wedding ceremony of sorts, though since I'm not ordained in that
church, it wasn't an official "religious" service and therefore
permissible. At least that's our story, and we're sticking to it. :-)
My great-grandparents were married there in 1905, so it was nearly
their hundredth anniversary as well. The residents of Llanhilledd
were marvelously friendly and helpful. It was a highlight in so many
ways.
