The clothing in the photo show this was a much later generation. Possibly
someone related to the lady who wrote on the back of the photo, and quite
possibly with Islwyn as a middle name. 'home on holidays' and the dress and
pose suggest possibly a student or maybe at boarding school at the time of
the photo. Is the hairstyle almost a 'teddy-boy' style and the shoes almost
'winkle-pickers' ? If your grandmother was a young adult when leaving
Cwmfelinfach in 1925, I would guess this is her nephew, possibly the son of
a younger sibling - or at least that generation. If the photo is about
1950-1958 from clothing and hairstyle, he would have been born about 1934 to
1942, possibly nearer the latter.
Would anyone else agree with the dating of the photo? I suspect the broad
square-ended tie may be a more precise clue to date, as they may only have
been in fashion for a year or two.

Islwyn was a poet from Ynysddu, just down the road from Cwmfelinfach
in Caerphilly, near Newport. His real name was William Thomas http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Thomas_(Islwyn) He took his "bardic
name" from Mynyddislywn, the mountain above his home.

As you'll see, she's trying to identify the man known as Islwyn
shown in an
old photograph. I've put the photo on my website at:

It's been quite some time since we've "conversed," but wondered if
you might
help me find the rightful owner of an old snapshot I found among
my photos.
It is of a man named Islwyn, and the handwriting on the back of the
photogaph is that of my grandmother, Annie W. (Powell) Evans. She
lived in
Cwmfelinfach until 1925, when she emigrated to the U.S. At any
rate, I have
absolutely no information other than what is written on the back of
the
photograph. Perhaps someone will recognize this young man in the
photo,
attached.
