At Herefordshire General Hospital on Wednesday an inquiry was held by the Hereford City
Council (Mr. E.A. CAPEL) into the circumstances attending the death of a nine-year-old
Cardiff boy who was knocked down by a car and killed at Hereford on Easter Monday.
The boy, Douglais Haig LANE, of 57, Eyre-street, Splott, Cardiff, had travelled to
Hereford on a visit with his parents and other members of the family, and in the evening
was walking in the direction of the station in the company of an older brother, while the
parents were on the other side of the street. Near the station-road entrance he began to
run across the road to join his father and mother. He failed to see a car which was being
driven by Mr. W.K.H. JEFFREY, of Mayfield, Withington, Hereford, and was knocked down. Mr.
JEFFREY and the boy's father went to pick him up, and he was taken to hospital in the
car. On arrival there, however it was found that life was extinct.
The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death," and exonerated the driver of
the car from all blame. Both the coroner and Mr. JEFFREY, senior, expressed their deep
sympathy with the family in their loss.
Sidney MORGAN, a young man living at 17, Globe-road, Bridgend, died shortly after his
