A verdict of "Suicide whilst temporarily insane" was returned this morning by
Mr. D.J. TREASURE, at Blackwood, at an inquest on Frank RICHARDS, a ship's fireman, of
Llanelly, who was found in a back lane in Blackwood with his throat cut on Sunday
morning.
Olive THOMAS, of Pontllanfraith, said she was delivering milk on Sunday morning, and a
strange man seemed to be following her she complained to a Mr. JONES.
Mr. J. JONES, collier, of Brynhyfryd-street, said that after hearing the complaint he went
with the girl to the back of the house to see where the man was. They found him lying down
in a dying condition with a razor near.
OBITUARIES.
The funeral of Mr. Joseph WILLIAMS, of Market-square, (Pontypridd), who died at the age of
91 on Monday last, took place at Glyntaff Cemetery, the Rev. W.A. WILLIAMS (Minister at
the Tabernacle Chapel) officiating. The mourners included Mr. and Mrs. David WILLIAMS,
(son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Joseph WILLIAMS (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and
Mrs. J. PRICE, (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. D. MORGAN, (son-in-law and
daughter), Miss M. WILLIAMS, (daughter), Mr. Trevor MORGAN and Mr. Vaughan WILLIAMS,
(grandsons), Miss Gladys MORGAN, (grand-daughter), Mr. Thomas DAVIES, Risca (nephew) and
Mrs. DAVIES, Mr. Joseph Henry REES, Abergavenny, (nephew), Mr. and Mrs. J. BRYANT, Risca,
and Messrs, David and Idris KING, Bridgend. Among others present were Messrs. David
WILLIAMS, Richard FRANCIS, Frank EVANS, Huw. T. RICHARDS, J. PHILLIPS, Herbert R. EVANS,
Ivor HOWELLS, Arthur LOUGHER, Tom JONES, William ROGERS, J. PHILLIPS (Lewis-terrace), Tom
HAGGETT and R. COWAN.
Mrs. COLLIS a veteran fruiterer, who has carried on business at the Market for half a
century has died.
A Requiem Mass for the late Mrs. Jane CANNING, of Aragon, Clytha Park, Newport, widow of
Alderman T. CANNING, J.P., who for 30 years was a member of the Newport Town Council, and
was a director of the Newport Gas Company, was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic
Church, Newport, on Friday. The interment afterwards took place in Newport Cemetery. The
coffin was conveyed to the church on Thursday night, members of the Catenian Association
acting as escort.
The officiating priests were the Rev. Fathers D. HICKEY,B.A., P. HART, G. ELSON, and G.
HOGAN. Mr. G. CURRAN was the organist.
The chief mourners were Mr. and Mrs. J.H. CANNING (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs.
A.P. ROTZINGER (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. G. CANNING (son), Miss C. JONES
(representing Mr. and Mrs T.C. CANNING, Southend), Mrs. Willie C. CLISSITT
(grand-daughter), Master John CANNING and Mr. J.W. BOLTON, Bristol. Mr. and Mrs. T.A.
CANNING and Mr. T.F. CANNING (Dewsbury) were unable to attend owing to prevailing
conditions..
Also present were the Mayor and Mayoress of Newport (Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus CLISSITT), Mr.
Willie C. CLISSITT (Sheffield), the Revd. P.J. WOODCOCK, Mr. and Mrs. Hedley JONES, Mr. H.
Le BRASSEUR, Mr. T. WHITE, Mr. G.E. DIBDIN, Capt. B.M.P. GORMAN, Mr. L.J. CICERI, Capt. J.

The following employees of the Newport Gas Compant acted as bearers. Mrs. H.J. WORKMAN, G.
WILLEY, H. MURPHEY, F. McCARTHY, W. BIGGINS, J. COLLINS, J. MEYERS, and M. GEARY.
The death as occurred at Rocky River, Ontario, of Evan LLOYD, a native of Caersalem
Newydd, near Swansea. Mr. LLOYD, who was 84 years old went to America with his children
thirty years ago, his wife having passed away nine years before. He retired about seven
years ago and entered the Welsh Home at Rocky River.
Alderman William George JAMES, J.P.., C. G. Llysyronen, Fishguard has died at the age of
seventy-four.
He was a first cousin of Mr. David Lloyd GEORGE. He was a retired estate agent and
auctioneer. He had for many years taken a prominent part in the public life of
Pembrokeshire.
He was alderman of the county council, ex-chairman of Haverfordwest rural district council
and board of guardians, and vice-chairman of Mathry bench of magistrates.
Mr. William CASEY, a Labour member of the Newport has been bereaved by the death of his
father, Mr. Thomas CASEY, of Alexandra road, who died at the age of 66. The CASEY'S
are a well known Newport family. J.P. CASEY the old Cardiff and Pill Harriers rugby
forward and Walter CASEY, the Newport rugby forward are members of it.
The death is announced after a long illness of Mrs. LEWIS, wife of Mr. A. Frederic LEWIS,
merchant, Llangadock. Mrs. LEWIS, who was forty-eight years of age, was the daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. LOCKYER, County Press, Llandilo. The Rev. Ronald LOCKYER, M.A.,
vicar of Reynoldston, and Mr. Howard LOCKYER, M.A., Merchiston Castle College, Edinburgh,
are brothers. Mrs. LEWIS was well known throughout the upper part of the county, and her
public services will be much missed. She was secretary of the local Red Cross Society;
treasurer of the Llangadock Women's Institute; secretary of the Woman's
Conservative Association: member of St. Cadog's Church Council, and during the war,
quarter-master of Llandovery Hospital for wounded soldiers.
