Hello Tina,
If a member of family was at sea on the night of the Census and
overseas they would not be included in the UK Census,?if they were
in dry dock UK based they would have been enumerated on that
vessel,to locate him on Census night you would need to know what
vessel he was on.
Everyone in the UK should have been enumerated regardless of where
they were staying on the night of Census, and being in a Pub?would
not be classed as place of abode for someone just drinking there in
less they booked a room for the night.?

Subject: Re: [MON] At sea?
Could you please advise me as to what would happen if a member of
the family was
at sea during the night of the census? Was it just taken for the
mainland UK??
I cannot locate my great grandfather Thomas Herbert Ward?on the
1901?census, but
have found my grandmother Beatrice Maude Ward and their first child
Thomas J
Ward.? I know they remained together until a very old age and he
apparently had
lots of stories about sailing to exotic places.? Incidently,?
Beatrice was in
Cardiff at her parents house that night - John and Isabella Bracher.
On a lighter note, if he was in the pub?all night, did they take a
list of
people in there too?
Looking forward to your replies.
Regards
Tina
