PONTARDAWE WORKS FATALITY
Whilst working on a derrick at Messrs. Gilbertson's Works, Pontardawe, on Friday
afternoon. John MORGAN, of Gellygron-road, Pontardawe, was struck on the head by
a piece of metal and died of his injuries. He was about 56 years of age.
Dr. Evan EVANS, Lampeter, has been appointed medical officer for the Lampeter
Union in place of Dr. ROWLAND, resigned.
NEWPORT CYCLIST INJURED
James ROUGLEY 27, of Pier Head Cottages, Alexandra Dock, Newport, was admitted
to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, late on Friday night with internal
injuries received following a collision with a motor-car whilst cycling.
BARRY CHILD'S FATAL INJURIES
Jeffrey William CLARKE 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. CLARKE, of 126, Holton-road,
Barry Dock, was knocked down by a motor-cycle outside his home on Friday
afternoon. He was unconscious when admitted to the Town Accidental Hospital with
serious head injuries, and died in the evening.
"TAFFS WELL CRASH."
With reference to the paragraph under the above heading in yesterday's Western
Mail, it should be stated that the accident occurred at Pwllypant, between
Llanbradach and Caerphilly, William HILL 21, of 43, South William-street,
Cardiff, was sitting up with the driver. Leonard JONES, was not driving himself.
WILLIAMS, who was admitted to the Roal Infirmary, has a broken leg. He was a
little better on Friday.
COSTS SAVED AT NEWPORT
Dr. Philip HACQUOIL, Stanwell-road, Penarth, was summoned at Newport on Friday
for failing to stop his motor-car at the signal of a police-constable. The case
was dismissed with 10s. costs.
Mr. H. M. HASLAM denied liability for costs on the ground that the bench had
found the defendant not guilty.
The Bench ultimately dismissed the case without costs.
HOLE IN ONE AT NEWPORT.
Mr. Charles KENDRICK holed his tee shot in one at the No. 4 green of the Newport
Club's course on Friday. The length of the hole is 163 yards.
KILLED BY A BULL.
The county coroner (Mr. H. J. E. PRICE) held an inquest on Friday on Alfred
EDWARDS, Lawrenny Cottages, near Haverfordwest.
Evidence was given to the effect that EDWARDS went into a cow-shed in which were
a cow and a bull. Shortly afterwards Edgar PHILLIPS, who was in the vicinity,
heard a groan and ran for assistance.
Evan Thomas WILLIAMS, farm bailiff at Lawrenny, said EDWARDS came out from the
shed and, while resting on a pitch-fork, before he collapsed, said "He (meaning
the bull) got me against the wall."
Medical testimony showed that the death was due to a fractured liver and severe
and interal haemorrhage.
The Coroner returned a verdict of "Death due to injuries caused by a bull."
Edward BISHOP 42, collier, was fined £1 at Bargoed on Friday for assaulting
Police-constable Edward DAVIES. A charge of stealing four lumps of coal from the
Gelligaer Police-station was dismissed. Mr. T. Price THOMAS, defended.
LLANBRADACH OUTCROP TRAGEDY.
A married man named ROWSWELL, of 63, School-street, Llanbradach, was buried in
the tip near the Llanbradach Colliery Washery on Friday afternoon and was dead
before he could be recovered. He was endeavouring to get some coal when the
banks caved in upon him.
