Dear Family and Welsh Genealogical Colleagues,
We are having a Roderick Family Reunion (anyone who descends from or is interest in any
Welsh family of the name RODERICK or RHYDDERCH (or associated names ROTHERO(E), PRYDDERCH,
PROTHERO(E), etc. and there are many, many different spellings all descending from the old
Welsh name RHYDDERCH). If you have a grandmother with the name regardless of your own
name, YOU are invited! We think there may have been as many as 10 independent
assumptions of the surname Roderick or Rhydderch at the time of change from patronyms to
surnames, mostly deriving from South Wales. And they have now spread around the U.K. and
the world. But even then, we are a relatively rare assemblage.
The reunion will be at the WHEATSHEAF INN, High St., Llantrisant 22 May 2010. We will
meet in the Function Room, reserved for ourselves from 2PM until close. Some of us will
be there at noon so we can begin meeting and exchanging family information and photos,
etc. Some of us will have our computers with us, up and operating, with much information
on them, including births, deaths, marriages certificates which we can share. We also
have considerable lengthy family trees, not published, which can be easily searched and
exchanged. And of course old photos.
We see this as a grand opportunity to meet others with similar genealogical pursuits, on
the Roderick/Rhydderch families, assembling our various families into a better order,
reviewing photographs, old documents, determining relationships if possible, opening up
further communication as we continue our researches, and just having a good time and a
meal together and a pint or two if you are so inclined.
If you wish, we can exchange family information ahead of time on the internet. Those
included in the recipients above have enormous amounts of information which we eagerly and
gladly share at no charge with anyone interested. A few of them can now be traced back
into the 1600s and we come from all walks of life. Let's continue to construct
definitive family histories, that we can pass along. It's a labor of love.
Contact the WHEATSHEAF who will give you good suggestions of very nearby B&Bs.
It might be nice to know if you are coming, BUT no reservations are necessary. Show up if
you can. Contact: Avril Verrall <avrilverrall(a)live.co.uk> if you can to let her
know of your interest. PLease contact your family and tell them of this event, and give
us their email addresses if they wish to keep in touch on Roderick/Rhydderch family events
and genealogical progress..
See you soon.
