Joseph Talmage JAMES (40), a smallholder of Llangwm-hill, Hook, near
Haverfordwest, was fined £2. by the Roose magistrates at Haverfordwest on
Saturday for selling new milk which was 38 per cent deficient in butter fat. Mr.
J. S. KELWAY, Milford, appeared for the defendant.
Absolom JONES, steelworker, Gwyn Villa, Alltwen, Pontardawe, a former member of
the Carmarthenshire Constabulary, was sent to prison for two months by the Neath
magistrates on Saturday for neglecting to maintain his wife.
Thomas FITZGERALD, the nine-year-old son of a labourer, of High-street,
Pontypool, was on Saturday knocked down and killed by a 'bus at Pontnewynydd.
The boy was crossing the road when the 'bus struck him a wheel passing over his
head.
The death took place at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary on Saturday of Mrs. Susan
JONES, 52, Bryntaff, Merthyr Vale, who was admitted on Friday suffering from a
fracture of the base of the skull.
Mrs. JONES was involved in a collision between a motor-car and motor-cycle at
the junction of Corbett-road, Colum-road and Park-place, Cardiff. She was riding
pillion on the machine driven by her husband, who was also slightly injured.
James Reginald DAVIES, farmer, Bishton, was fined £5 and £2 costs by the Newport
County magistrates on Saturday for being drunk in charge of a motor-car.
Mr. Glynn HOPKINS, of Tonyrefail, tenor vocalist who has gained a local
reputation, is about to leave for Vienna to continue his studies in opera. He
has won many prizes at various eisteddfodau, including Bristol, and has sung
with the D'Oily Carte Opera Company in London, and in the provinces. Previously
he was a student at the Guildford School of Music.
Miss "Netta Lind" JONES, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. JONES, Briton Ferry, has
just returned home after a successful series of concerts at the Bournemouth
Winter Gardens and the Margate Winter Gardens.
Miss JONES, who sings under the nom-de-plume of Netta LIND, the Welsh girl
soprano, was well received at all the concerts in which she took part. Miss
Netta LIND is only twenty years of age.
The Royal Mountain Ash Choir made their second debut in New York on Saturday,
October 9, at the Rivoli Theatre, Broadway. Press critics term them "the
greatest singing act that as ever appeared on a New York stage."
During the week 31 performances were given, the theatre being packed to its
fullest capacity at most of the performances.
Solo numbers rendered by Mr. Emlyn J. BURNS and Mr. John P. WILLIAMS were
equally well received.
Amongst many who are interested in the choir's performances are Lady Montague
LEWIS and Mrs. Laura BURT (the Welsh-American actress). The choir are en route
to the following cities:-
Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago, Des Moines, Kansas City, Omaha, St. Louis,
Dallas, Houston, San Antonie, Memphis and Atlanta.
