A Cardiff seaman, who on Monday was helping to unload a sandship, was mysteriously injured
when in the hold of the ship. The man is now in the Royal Hamadryad Seamen's Hospital,
and has not yet recovered consciousness.
He is Albert WILLIAMS, a widower, and lived in Margaret-street, Docks, Cardiff, with his
three daughters.
He was without a ship when the chance came of work in loading the steamship Isobel, lying
in the Bute East Dock, Cardiff.
WILLIAMS was working in the hold of the Isobel, from which sand was being transported in
heavy iron tubs to the dockside. Suddenly he appeared on deck, muttered something to
another worker, he pitched forward. It was seen that he had received a terrible blow on
the back of the head, and after efforts had been made to revive him he was taken to the
hospital. From the moment of his appearance on the deck he has neither moved nor spoken.
The theory is held that he must have been struck down by one of the tubs.
A whist drive was held by the Heath Whist Club in aid of the Cardiff Blind Institute. Mr.
MARTIN, manager of the Blind Institute, attended and made an appeal for funds for the
