Dear David, and fellow Mon List members,
I was wrong in suggesting yesterday that Blaenau Gwent is simply a different
spelling of Blaina: (I wrote "Blaina [aka Blaenau Gwent...])
Blaenau Gwent was a new county borough created from part of old
Monmouthshire back in 1974. It is the borough in which the towns and
villages of Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, Nantyglo, and Tredegar are situated. See
Wikipedia for further details:

Thank you to "Jon" <berksmon(a)outlook.com> for pointing out my mistake.
Kind regards,
John

Dear David
Here are my attempts at deciphering the birth-places in the censuses:
1851
William Morgan - born Carmarthenshire, Llandingat [Llandovery, see GENUKI]
Ann - Carmarthenshire, [possibly Llanycrwys, see GENUKI]
William - Monmouth[shire], Aberystruth [large ancient parish, see GENUKI]
Daniel - ditto
Eleanor - Monmouth[shire], Bedwellty [large ancient parish, see GENUKI]
Catherine - ditto
1861
William Morgan - born Carmar-shire, Tingat [Llandingat]
Ann - Carmarthenshire, Llanyrwse [possibly Llanycrwys]
William - Monmouth[shire], Blaina [aka Blaenau Gwent (see GENUKI), in parish
of Aberystruth]
Daniel - ditto
Ellen - Monmouth[shire], Ebbw Vale [formerly in Bedwellty parish]
Catherine - ditto
John - ditto
Morgan - Monmouthshire, Ebbw Vale
Jane - ditto
1871
William Morgan - born Carmarthen[shire], Llandingat
Ann - Carmarthenshire, Llangwr?st [possibly Llanycrwys]
John - Monmouth[shire], Bedwellty
Morgan - Monmouthshire, Bedwellty
Mary A - ditto
All of the above place-names (using the spelling I've given 1n [square
brackets]) are included in the GENUKI gazetteers for the two counties
involved. The only one I have doubts about is William's wife's birthplace:
Llanycrwys is the nearest match I could find.
Kind regards,
John
