There were two 200 page volumes written on the Cheesman family of
South Jersey ("The Cheesman Family" by Albert Stirling Adams, Gloucester
County Historical Society (NJ, USA)). All the research that has been done
to date claim that Richard is the son of Thomas of Hempstead, Long Island.
The problem is that it does not hold up to serious examination.
If I had a penny for all the web pages that just blindly copy the
text from those volumes dealing with that alleged relationship, I'd be rich.
Toss in all the genealogies linked to it in Family Search and I'd be very
rich. The books aren't bad as a guide but the earliest connection is just
wishful thinking.
Thanks Diane!
Ed.

Hi Ed,
I checked the Mongenes database as well as
familysearch.org and Ancestry.
No obvious Cheeseman/Chessman in Monmouthshire. I did some searching for
Richard but as you said no records. I did find a tree at Ancestry that
suggests Ephraim Cheeseman b abt 1754 Lower , Landing, Camden NJ, d 1807
Gloucester NJ and Mary b 1758 are his parents. Their parents Richard and ? (
no dates). The only source given was "Geneanet database" which I searched
and found a bunch of trees that had Cheeseman in NJ:
http://en.geneanet.org/search/?name=cheeseman

http://en.geneanet.org/search/?name=cheeseman&country=USA®ion=...
debut=1740&annee_fin=1840&ressource=arbre>
&country=USA®ion=NJE&annee_debut=1740&annee_fin=1840&ressource=arbre
also searched old rootsweb trees- here are quite a few that you might find
more info on:

Hopefully one of these will have more records. If he was Quaker the records
should be there.you may have to do some time sucking searches to find his
records as the last name could easily have been misspelled. Diane
