Hello Bobbi,
Letita's maiden name was Evan's before her marriage to Thomas Lewis, is this
correct? I
am assuming she kept the name of Lewis (from her first marriage). If this is the case
she would be Letitia Lewis marrying Thomas Jones. The 'Evans' would only be
beneficial
in obtaining *her* birth certificate. Sorry to state the obvious. The American tradition
to place the maiden name, in your case Evans, is a great help in tracing families. I
only wish we used this in Britain to that extent.
Using St Catherine's index, it would be possible to tie in Letita to Thomas for a
marriage 1840 + or - a year. Using Bedwellty as a reference.
The Tredegar Ironworks where you mentioned the Christenings, was Saron just off Harcourt
street in Tredegar, shown on IGI's sometimes as 'Sharon' (Tredegar Ironworks).
I have
been lucky enough to trace some of my Jones ancestors at Saron from the Mormon Jesus
Christ of the Latter Day Saints from this site. Just remember to put England in as
country and Monmouth. You could be lucky and find even a marriage for Letita and Thomas
in 1840. Saron had a graveyard in the 1970's, but it has been cleared since then.
Records are still obtainable, I believe, at the archives office at Croesceilliog, near
Cwmbran Gwent (tel 01633 644886 local code).
I've found Leticia, shown as Lettice and Thomas at 222,Scyborwen, Tredegar ref
H0107/2448/823/12 on 1851 census at Bedwellty This is the Sirhowy area of Tredegar,
Bedwellty at the time. You probably have this anyway.

The ages of Thomas and Lettice could have been rounded to nearest 5 years, something
that was done on 1841 certainly, but was also evident on 1851 in my research for that
period sometimes.
Any problems, email me. I am not an expert, but I can answer your questions in these
parts.
All the best.

Am looking for information about a marriage of Letitia Evans Lewis to
Thomas Jones that reportedly took place in Sirhowy or Bedwelty about 1840.
They had two daughters born in Wales: Diana Jones (b. 1843) and Ann Jones
(b. 1845).
Letitia was first married to Thomas Lewis in Bedwellty on April 7, 1827 and
had six children: Jacob, John, David, Daniel, Margaret, and Thomas. Would
also like to know the date of death (or burial info) of Thomas Lewis.
Sons Jacob, David, John, and Daniel S. Lewis were christened at the Tredegar
Iron Works.
Does anyone on the list connect with this family?
