No - it would state what the informant(s) stated. Sometimes you find that
the forename given on a subsequent cert. was a different one (not just an
abbreviated one) to that on the same person's birth cert.
and would he have been listed as deceased if he had already
died
Not necessarily. The only requirement for the box in question was that the
'father's name and surname' be stated (and even that could not and indeed
cannot always be fulfilled). I have a marr. cert. where I know the father to
have died 10 years before the marr. of his son, but there is no indication
on the son's marr. cert. that the father is no longer alive.
rather than listing his occupation?
There was a separate box for 'rank or profession', and that would normally
have been filled in, whether or not the person to whom it referred was
alive.
If either of these are the case
then it isn't the same person.
