Hello Jan
This from the GWENT FHS Marriage Index:
William CARD m. Maria JONES both Monmouth @ Monmouth by Licence, 8 September
1829.
A likely prospect for Robert's parents?

Thank you to all the listers who replied with some Edward JONES from
the 1881
Census of Monmouth. It seems they don't really fit, our Edward had to
have
been born in about 1861/2/3 - we have his marriage to Gertrude Maria CARD in
Southport, Lancs. July 29, 1883. And he is listed in the Census of Neepawa,
Manitoba, Canada in 1891 as 29 years old. > Further clues put him as being born
in Lydbury North, Shropshire, the son of John (?) Edward JONES, Boot and
Shoemaker. The 1861 Census of Lydbury North shows a John Edward JONES, Boot
and Shoe Maker, and wife Hannah. > > Can anyone find an 1871 Census of Lydbury,
by which time Edward should show up as an 8 or 9 year-old son? > > When he
married Gertrude CARD in 1883, the witnesses were Llewellyn Robert JONES and
Harriet Elizabeth JONES - Harriet could be Llewellyn's wife or sister - but
Llewellyn should show up, with Edward, if he was a brother, in an earlier
Census. > > Gertrude Mariah CARD (Born about 1861/2/3) has not shown on any
listings yet but was the daughter of Robert Michael CARD (born Monmouth) and
Fanny Eleanor MORGAN, who married in Upton Bishop, Hereford 1st October, 1855.
They appear to have raised their family in Lydbury North (although sometimes
listed as Ledbury , Sal). So possibly Gertrude CARD would show on an 1871
Census there. > > Monmouth Listers, please watch for CARD in Monmouth, MON! >
