Hello Don
I read your email but I can't help. So I didn't reply.
That's the nature of lists - we haven't got time to say "Hello". The
other
thing is, the 1841 census is not the easiest document to search on microfilm
(for me and MY eyesight anyway!)
Also, as names go, "Ebenezer" and "Hughes" are NOT rarities in South
Wales,
which is a bigger place and more densely populated (even in 1841) than you
might think.
Rest assured, if any of us can answer a lister's question we will do so
willingly. Meantime, get hold of a good book on genealogy which describes
the various censuses and you'll see what you're up against. I suggest
Fitzhugh's "Dictionary of Genealogy" (ISBN 0-7136-3348-4) You can get it
from
Amazon.com
Wishing you success

Subject: [Mon] PLEASE HELP with Ebenezer Hughes of CWM??
I have posted this message several times and disappointed that NOBODY
has
any
followups or suggestions...or even a loose ancestor waddling around
somewhere? Ebenenzer Hughes must be rare in name and in place..being Cwm,
Ebbw Vale or even Manmoel areas? If you are working the area I would
appreciate a HELLO to know it was read.
Searching Ebenezer Hughes of Cwm, near Ebbw Vale? He was in the Census of
1841 of Monmouth, Abervegenny, Parish of Aberystruth (pg 3 of 6) for the
area
know as CWM...he was 5, Father may have been William and Mother was
Mary
Hughes at home of Thomas and Sarah Phillips,Cwm.
I also need info on a Sarah Hughes born there about 1844..and in the 1851
Cwm census..probably his sister....
Ebenezer immigrated to the U.S. from Wales about 1868(date not found). It
seems he had been born circa 1836. It is believed that he first went to
Minersville, Pennsylvania where his family consisting of sons born in
Wales
:William (b. 1856), Thomas (b. 1860) and his wife Elizabeth Morgan
Hughes
(b,
1836-1838){I have a copy of their marriage certificate, they were
married
Siloh Chapel, I think in Tredegar} of Ebbw VVale.joined him about 1861.
His
daughter Leah was born at Minersville in 1862 according to family
tradition.
The family appears in the Scranton, Penna. Census from 1870 on and
my
Grandfather Ebenezer (2nd) was born there...
Any suggestions of where to look, etc VERY MUCH appreciated from this sun
drenched Floridian
