Subject: [MON] JAMES HOSKINS / Llanfoist Lower
Hi there,
I'm new to the Monmouthshire list and I am hoping that someone may be able to help me
with my 'brick wall'!
I have been trying to trace my family tree further back from James HOSKINS and Eliza HUNT,
his wife.
What I have already is : James was a woodman / wood collier. I think
that he was born around 1830, possibly in "Llaudanger, Hereforshire"
according to the 1871 census - In 1871 the family were living at 4
Cwm-Shenkin, Govilon
James was dead before the 1881 census.
Eliza HUNT was the daughter of Robert and Sarah HUNT. James and Eliza
married in Oct 1854 (I think!) In 1871, Robert and Sarah were living in
Llanfoist with grandson Thomas HOSKINS (b. 1866 approx)
Their daughter Ellen Maud HOSKINS was my GG Grand Mother, she was born
21 June 1869 in Llanfoist Lower. I have her birth certificate. In 1881
she appears to be a domestic servant for Wm Jones and his family in
Llanfoist.
I've tried searching the censuses and
ancestry.com for HOSKINS, HOISKIN, HOSKING and
other variants.... I have been to Llanfoist to look around the
churchyard searching for gravestones, but no luck. I know what happened
to Ellen Maud, but James and Eliza are both mysteries.
Any ideas, advice, or answers that you may have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Dave Morgan
