I had given up on research of my family in Risca and Machen, however
Jeff
Coleman's recent email has prompted me to try again.
Various members of my family have lived on Garn Farm from before 1850
until the end of WW1 when, family lore says, my grandfather sold it. He went
back to the UK from Australia and worked in munitions during that war.
Before return to Australia in Feb. 1919 he applied for leave to "settle up
business with regard to propert affairs". I don't know if that was granted
or not but think it must have been.
As far as I know Garn became part of Tir-Y-Cwm farm next door but today
it has been split and what is left is now known as Garn Cottage at the end
of Tir-Y-Cwm Lane.
My question is, can someone tell me where I would write to find info on
any sale that may have taken place in 1919.
I wrote to the present owners some time ago but have never recieved a
response. Help anyone?
