Hi Val and John
If you go to the 1871 census you will see the family still in Trevethin and
Mary is listed as being born in Aberdare. I think that the 1851 census has
the alternative spelling of "Aberdar". The 'd' has a very short up
stroke.

We are struggling to decipher the birth place of Mary Williams on the !851
Census (see sheet 383 ). She was born approximately 1810 and lived at 8,
Ould Castle, Trevithin, Monmouthshire.
The census transcription states that she was born at Abernar,
Glamorganshire, but we do not believe there is a parish of this name. An
alternative transcription is given as Aberdare, but the original census
script does not seem to be this either.

Dear Val and John,
I wondered whether Mary's birthplace could be Abervan (Aberfan)? Also the
parish in which they are residing is of course Trevethin (not Trevithin).
Kind regards,
John
