The Duke of Beaufort was Lord of the Manor, and also held/holds very
significant land rights in the Swansea area. It is not obvious why a Swansea
family should have held land in the Usk area, unless by inheritance.
The Will of William Richards, Mercer of Swansea, Glamorgan
Date 08 February 1731
is available online ( for a price) at the National Archives
in the
Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
which may well have meant that he owned property in more than one county, or
in more than one diocese.

It is amazing what you find in strange places. This is from the
Manor
documents for the Manor of Usk Monmouthshire that I am currently
transcribing and I thought it might be useful to others. I can complete if
anyone is researching this family.
5 June 1746
To this Court came William RICHARDS of the City of Bristol Gent Son and
Customary heir of William RICHARDS late of the Town of Swansey [Swansea]
in
the County of Glamorgan Gent' deceased in his own proper person, and
Surrendered into the hands of the said Manor by acceptance of his said
Deputy Steward All and Singular his Customary hold Messuages Lands
tenements
and hereditaments with their and every of their appurtenances Situate
Lying
and being in the parish of Langwn Ycha in the County of Monmouth within
the
Man'r aforesaid And the Revertion and Revertions Remainder and Remainders
of
all and Singular the said Customary hold Messuages Lands and tenements
with
the appurts To the use and behoof of Philip MORGAN of the Town of Usk in
the
County of Monmouth Gent' his heires....................................
