Dear Listers,
I wonder if anyone can assist me.
I was recently sent a photo of my husband's great grandfather John Newbery who was one
of the many miners killed in 1878 at Abercarn.
This photograph contains images of 22 miners Members of Courts 3040. The backing paper has
the name of Dando and Sons, Newport who I assume took or arranged the photos. I do not
know the significance of the term Courts 3040.
John's brother-in -law Thomas Nelmes and his brother Charles Nelmes were both victims
of the same disaster. They are not on this photo but I wonder if the page I've been
sent is part of a larger folio of photos of miners killed in this disaster. As the photo
has come to me by a circuitous route I'm not able to ascertain where it was obtained
and if there are other similar photos. it would be nice to have a photo of the Nelmes
men.
If anyone can help point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
Best wishes,
mary
