OBITUARIES.
MR. J. WEST-JONES, BAGLAN
Mr. John WEST-JONES, of Danycoed, Baglan, Briton Ferry, died on Thursday evening
at the age of 65 years. He was managing director of Thomas JENKINS and Sons
(Limited), metal merchants, Briton Ferry, and was out on business last week. He
contracted a chill and pleurisy supervened. Mr. JONES came to Briton Ferry many
years ago from Llanfyrnach, Pembrokeshire, as a clerk to the old Vernon Tinplate
Company, Briton Ferry, and when Baglan Bay Tinplate Works was started he was
appointed a cashier. He afterwards became manager of the Ashburnham Tinplate
Company, Burry Port. Subsequently he became manager of the firm of Thomas
JENKINS and Sons, and when the firm became a limited company he was made
managing director. He was also a director of the Ynyslan Colliery Company. He
was a deacon of the English Congregational Church at Briton Ferry. A widow,
three grown up sons, and one daughter survive.
MR. D. GRIFFITHS, FORMERLY OF MERTHYR.
Mr. Daniel GRIFFITHS, for forty years inspector of works under the Merthyr
Corporation, died on Thursday at Brynawel, Llanstephan, the residence of his
son-in-law and daughter (Mr. and Mrs. E. S. EVANS), in his 81st year. On his
retirement from Merthyr five years ago he made his home at Llanstephan. Mr.
GRIFFITHS had been deacon of Gwernllwyn Congregational Church, Dowlais, for
thirty-five years and later served as a deacon of Bethel Congregational Church,
Llanstephan. The funeral (private) will be at Pant Cemetery, Dowlais, on Monday.
MR. W. C. DANIEL, PENTRE.
The death has taken place in St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, of Mr. William
Chas. DANIEL, of Queen-street, Pentre, who for over twenty years had been
employed at the Abergorky Colliery, Treorky, and was overman in the smith's
shop. A single man 47 years of age, he was spending an holiday in London
following an operation when he was suddenly taken ill and died the day following
his admittance to St. Mary's Hospital. He was exceedlingly popular in the
Rhondda Valleys, and at one time was an active worker in the Conservative cause.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert DANIEL life-long residents in
the Valleys.
The funeral takes place to-morrow (Saturday) at Treorky Cemetery.
BURIAL OF MR. W. J. DAVIES, CARDIFF.
The funeral of Mr.William James DAVIES, retired licensed victualler, who died on
Sunday at his residence, Ty Gwyn, Lake-road East, Cardiff, in his 67th year took
place at the Cardiff Cemetery on Thursday. The Rev.-. DAVIES, of All Saints
Church, conducted the service.
The mourners were Mr. George DAVIES (son), Mr. D. S. DAVEY (son-in-law).

JOHN (Messrs. David JOHN and Co.), Mr. J. O. ROBERTS (Hancock's Brewery), and

LATE MRS. GWENLLIAN EDMUNDS, CARDIFF.
Mrs. Gwenllian EDMUNDS, of 2, Burnaby-street, Cardiff, was buried in the Cardiff
Cemetery on Thursday. The Revs. D. J. HENRY, B.A., and T. O. PHILLIPS, Cardiff
officiated at Jerusalem Calvinistic Methodist Church, where Mrs. EDMUNDS was an
active member, and at the graveside.

MR. JAMES THOMAS, CARDIFF.
Mr. James THOMAS, of Dilcusha, Cyncoed-road, Cardiff, formerly of The Stores,
Porthcawl, steel works manager until six years ago of the Dowlais Cardiff Works
who died on July 8, aged 76 years, left estate of the gross value of £6,335,
with net personalty £4, 205. Probate of the will dated October 15, 1923, with a
codicil of June 17, 1926, has been granted to Mr. John Llewelyn JONES, of
Cyncoed House, Hollybush-road, Penylan, his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth THOMAS, who
was named as executrix, having died on October 8 last. Testator left his
residence to his wife for life, with remainder to his daughter Florence Enid
Gwendoline THOMAS during spinsterhood, with remainder to the residuary estate;
his household effects his property in trust for her for life and then for his
children of their issue in equal shares, sums already advanced to be brought
into account by them respectively.
MR. G. LL. HUGHES, PONTHIR.
Mr. George Llewelyn HUGHES, of Gorsafdy, Ponthir. Mon., retired income tax
collector, formerly of Pontypool, who died on September 20, left estate of the
gross value of £1,062. with net personalty £181. Probate of the will has been
granted to his widow, Mrs. Sarah HUGHES.
