BURGLAR SENTENCED-One Time Member Of A Notorious Gang.
Solomon MORRIS (26), clerk, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to six months' hard
labour for breaking into the dwelling house of Edward MAJOR in the Uplands,
Swansea, in broad daylight.
Detective-inspector GUBB said that the prisoner was at one time a member of a
notorious Jewish gang of house, shop, and warehouse breakers. He was a clever
housebreaker and a clever pickpocket.
The gang to which he at one time belonged operated at Cardiff and Manchester.

GAOL FOR PORT TALBOT MAN.
Robert JOHN (29), fitter's mate, Port Talbot, was sentenced to six months' hard
labour for robbery. He threw a cloth over Catherine WILLIAMS, housekeeper, and,
whilst she was on the ground, took £5 10s. from her basket.
Mr. W. C. HOWE prosecuted, and Mr. Glyn EDWARDS defended.
St. NICHOLAS YOUTH'S CRIME.
William JOHN (20), farm labourer, St. Nicholas, was sentenced to nine months'
hard labour on charge of breaking and entering and attempted breaking and
entering in Bonvilston, Peterston, St. Fagan's, St. Nicholas, and Tumble Hill,
Mr. H. H. ROSKIN prosecuted, and Mr. Walter SAMUEL defended.
COLLIER AND WAR WIDOW.
Herbert BOND (31), collier, Pontypridd, pleaded guilty to bigamy at Swansea in
April, 1925, and was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Prisoner was said to
have gone through a marriage with Rachel MOGRIDGE, a war widow with four
children.

WOMAN BIGAMIST COLLAPSES.
Muriel PINKARD (28), pleaded guilty to bigamy at Swansea on April 2. 1926. When
sentenced to one day's imprisonment, she collapsed.
Mr. Clarke WILLIAMS prosecuted.
Detective-inspector GUBB said prisoner also admitted committing bigamy at
Pontypridd, in 1920, and wished that to be taken in consideration.
FERNDALE BIGAMIST.
Joseph Nicholas THOMAS (38), collier, of Ferndale, was found guilty of bigamy
and sentenced to two months' imprisonment.
CWMAVON MAN'S GRAVE OFFENCE.
William Benjamin JONES (38), pumpsman, a native of Cwmavon, pleaded guilty to
attempting to commit a grave offence and was sentenced to twelve months' hard
labour.

It was announced by the Clerk of Assize (the Hon. Stephen COLERIDGE) that no
alleged riot cases would be taken before Monday, November 29.
CIVIL COURT CASES. Woman Non-Suited In Action Against Bookmaker.
The first case in the civil list was an action for damages for alleged slander
brought by Mrs. Amanda Margaret EVANS, widow, of Newport-road, Cardiff, against
Ernest H. DEAN, a commission agent, of Queen-street, Cardiff.
Mr. Joshua DAVIES (instucted by Mr. Barnett JANNER) was for the plaintiff, and
Mr. T. W. LANGMAN (instructed by Mr. J. C. PROLE, Cardiff) defended.
Mr. Joshua DAVIES applied for an amendment of the statement of claim. The
original statement of claim. The original statement of claim alleged that a
slander was uttered at Ascot and subsequently at Cardiff, and the amendent asked
alleged that the slander was uttered at Frederick-street, Cardiff, on a
different date -June 23.
Mr. Justice WRIGHT: I don't think that at this time of the day I can allow an
amendment.
Mr. DAVIES intimated that he was unable to proceed, and asked for a non-suit,
which his Lordship granted.
