WELSH WEDDING.- WILLIAMS - HUGHES.
The wedding took place at Ebenezer Welsh Congregational Chapel on Thursday of
Mr. Edward WILLIAMS (Brynfab) youngest son of Mr. Thomas WILLIAMS (Brynfab) and
Mrs.WILLIAMS, late Hendre Farm, to Miss Jennie HUGHES, youngest daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. T. HUGHES, Cardiff-road, Treforest. The Rev. Edwin JONES, who made the
journey specially from Liverpool to officiate, conducted the service.
The bride was dressed in a brocaded charmeuse frock trimmed with silver, and
wore a veil with orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of scarlet rose buds. The
duties of best man were carried out by Mr. Jack HUGHES. The bridemaids were Miss
Winnie HARRIS, of Liverpool (cousin of the bride), who was attired in a lime
green georgette frock with black hat, and Misses Maureen BIRD and Margaret
HARRIES (nieces of the bridegroom), who wore shell pink and blue georgette
frocks with Russian head-dresses of shaded flowers. They carried bouquets of
bronze chrysanthemums. The honeymoon is being spent in Bournemouth.
Mr. R. THOMAS, of Ystrad Mynach, won the prize for bull terrier bitch at Neath
Dog Show with "Wonders Doubles Pride."
GABALFA'S NEED-Eisteddfod As Aid To Bazaar.
In conjunction with a bazaar held under the auspices of St. Mark's Church,
Gabalfa, an eisteddfod was held at the Drill-hall, West Grove, Cardiff, on
Thursday afternoon. Councillor CHARLES (Deputy Lord Mayor) and Mr. W. G. DUCK
delivered the opening addresses, giving some account of the conditions existing
in Gabalfa, where the population is growing so quickly, and of the difficulties
confronting St. Mark's Church on account of its inadequate accommodation.
The vicar's statement that £320 had been realised on the first day, £120 on the
second, and that he expected the total of £500 to be reached to-day was greeted
with applause.
The adjudicators at the eisteddfod were.
Professor David LLOYD (Tonypandy) and Mr.T. Ellis LEWIS (Radyr), Mr. Shapland
DOBBS conducted the proceedings, and Miss E. M. DAVID acted as accompanist.
The chief awards were:-
Soprano solo (boys); Ronald PRYCE.
Children's solo:Prize divided between Nancy BOLTON and Sylvia PRICE, Cardiff.
Novice solo:Mr. E. DUFFIELD, 10, Tulloch-street, Cardiff.
Juvenile choirs: Canton Juvenile Prize Choir (conductress, Madame Gwenllian T.
WILLIAMS).
Violin solo: Miss L. HUGGLESTONE.
LONDON EISTEDDFOD.-Awards In Semi-National Contest.
The Chair Eisteddfod (London Semi-National) took place to-night at the
Central-hall, Westminster. There were a large number of entries for all
competitions, which reached a high standard. The adjudicators were:- Music, Sir

THE CHAIRED BARD.
The chairing of the successful bard was performed with the customary ceremony.
He was the Rev. David JONES, Clydach, Swansea, and the subject of his poem was
"To the memory of the late Rev. W. JENKINS-JONES Methodist minister in
Brittany."
In the second choral competition, mixed voices, the prize was awarded Herne Hill
Wesleyans. Other awards:-
