Hello knowledgeable listers
A distant family relative who resides in England recently ventured to
Blaenavon to take some photographs of some of the addresses that my GAUT
relations used to live at. I got these addresses from various census.
At one address in particular, 8 Upper Coedcae, while standing and getting
ready to take a photo, my relative engaged in a conversation with the
current resident. As it turns out, the current resident's grandparents were
GAUT's and he and his brother believe that their grandfather was a founder
of the ironworks and that there is a plaque in the church about it. Now, I
don't know what church he speaks of and my distant relative who was there
taking photos is off on holiday for several weeks and won't get back to
Blaenavon for some time yet.
Does anyone know of the plaque that is being referred to here?
If so I'd appreciate some contact, a photo would be an added bonus! I have
also been informed there is a photo in existence one of my GAUT rellies
driving the first steam bus (or car) seen in Blaenavon. Does anyone have
ideas on where I can obtain a copy of this photo? Would it be in a museum?
The GAUT rellies that migrated to Australia ended up producing the man who
ran and maintained the sky railway at Katoomba where the Three Sisters are.
He also had a working scale model train with carriages that would seat
children, it ran around the boundary of his property. He was really into
trains so it isn't surprising that an ancestor was the first to drive the
first steam car/bus in Blaenavon.
