Hi,
Could someone please confirm that Gwent Record Office, County Hall, Cwmbran,
is the place to go for RISCA Parish Records.
If it is the right place, please if SKS is going there in the future, &
happens to be looking at Risca Parish Records, could they look for the 2nd
Marriage of my 3xg Grandfather?
His name was Francis ELMS, & he married someone called ANN.
I don't know Ann's mn, but she was born at Chilcompton, Somerset, & was 58
in the 1871 Census. I suspect that Ann may have been a Widow when she
married Francis. Francis was 57 in the 1871 Census & they were living at
Risca. I have a hunch (that may be wrong!) that the marriage may have
taken place between 1851-1853, but if not, between 1851-1873.
1873 was the year Francis died.
Francis' surname may be down as ELMES, NELMES, NELMS, or something else
that sounds like ELMS.
I have looked in St Catherines index, & the marriage is not there, that is
why I think it must be down under a variation of ELMS.
Francis & his 1st Wife had previously lived at Lower Machen, but the 2nd
Marriage wasn't there, as a very kind lady called Gwyn has checked in those
Parish Registers for me. Thanks again Gwyn!
Also thanks again to all those people who have helped me in the past,
including Chris Johnson & Kevin Pooley & John Venn. Sorry if I have missed
anyone out, but I am grateful to you all.
I know that there is a Momouthshire lookup exchange, but there doesn't seem
to be anyone doing Risca.
Thanks,
From Jan.
