Hi Tony,
The details that Al's given you about the parish of Mynyddislwyn are correct,
but if Multimap places Mynyddislwyn church between Blackwood and Pengam then
they've got it wrong. That's where Cefn Fforest is.
The parish church of St Tewdwr is indeed high on a hilltop (magnificant view!)
but it's the other side of Blackwood from Pengam.
If you can find Pontllanfraith, Ynysddu, Watsville, Crosskeys, and Abercarn on
a map they form a rough circle. Mynyddislwyn church is bang in the
centre of that circle. On a small scale map it's about half way between
Blackwood and Risca.
There was coal mining in the area from about 1790 until fairly recently.
