If the certificate is from the GRO at Southport, and has the original
'copied' in then you can get in touch with GRO (e-mail?) and they will issue
a new one with the details hand written and confirm uncertain words. You may
have to send the original you have received back to them. If you now have
accurate dates, the original registration office
may also be able to give better information. (I've just looked at GENUKI for
Abergavenny address details and it takes you round in circles for
Abegavenny, Pontypool and Monmouth!)

Subject: [Mon] HELP READING LOCATIONS ON BC, and 1851 CENSUS LISTING
for this family
I'm wondering if someone could help me read some town/districts/locations
on
a Certificated Copy of an 1850 Birth Certificate - please.
I have just received a Birth Certificate for EDWIN [George] SKEWIS, born
Third February 1850.
The Registration District reads "Abergavenny"
The sub-district reads ?? Trillegar (not sure of this)
The County reads Monmouth
When and where born - shows Sorhang (not at all sure of this!), Bedwellty
Description of residence of informant shows Elizabeth Skewis - Mother -
Sorhang (????)
Could someone please help me with the name of the sub-district; and the
town/location in Bedwellty that starts with an "S"?
I would also be so very grateful if someone could find this family on the
1851 Census in or near to this location...
Thank you so very much!
RUTH (in overcast Sacramento, CA)
