Hi John,
Many thanks for your mail.
Unfortunatly, I didn't realise I would be back on the list for the next two
days and hurriedly wrote the mail.
I actually looked for Whitchurch, on a road atlas in the car this morning,
and obviously missed it.
Garway, is the ancestral place of my paternal family certainly from the late
1700's and possibly my direct line previously. My GGran was the first
assistant teacher at Garway school, and I was fortunate to have been invited
there for the Schools 125th anniversary in June this year, and shown the
entry from 1875 in the school log recording her starting at the school.
Many thanks for your time and trouble, I am sorry I was a bit vague.
Sincere Best Wishes,
Christine

Tried a quick look-up with no success as yet.

Hi Chris,
It would have been helpful to tell us *where* you had tried your "quick
look-up".
Entering "Whitchurch" into the search field of the Streetmaps website at
www.streetmap.co.uk , after first selecting the "UK place" option,
produces a long list of possibles, including "Whitchurch,
Herefordshire", which is near Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley, about 4
miles north-east of the town of Monmouth.
There are at least two places of worship marked on the map of
Whitchurch, but I do not know whether either of them is your Doward
Chapel. However, there are two areas 1 mile to the south and south-west
of Whitchurch identified on the map as Little Doward and Great Doward.
It therefore seems very likely that this is the place you are seeking.
The "Garway" mentioned in your other Monmouthshire List posting is about
5 miles north-west of Whitchurch, and can also be found using the
Streemaps website.
Best wishes,
John
