Thank you to Diane and Adrian.
It appears that the Death Certificate issued in 1855 may have been in
error?? as a newspaper report places the death in late May 1853. Highly
unlikely that two people with the name William Knight were killed on the
same train track some two years apart. Now obtaining the Certificate for
1853.
Your help in breaking down this wall is very much appreciated.

Hi All
I have a Death Certificate for a William KNIGHT who is my 2nd great
grand father, dated 17 March 1855 in the Parish of Bedwellty. Cause of
death "Accidentally Killed by Steam Engine" and age 38 years, the death
is registered by "W H Brewer, Deputy Coroner, Blackwood".
Whilst the year is around where I expected it to be the age does not
match my other information on William. William married Mary THOMAS 23
November 1853 at Newport RO at age 22 and place of residence Machen,
their daughter Jane was born in Bedwas the next year which is Mary's
home town.
Googling for inquest information and possible newspapers for the area
and time have proved fruitless, can someone point me in another
direction to locate more information on this death???
Thank you
John

Hi John,
I think it is possible you have the wrong death certificate. I think I
found your Jane Knight with mother Mary, remarried on the 1860 in Bedwas? So
you know your William died between 1853 and 60?
There are a few other deaths of William Knights listed on familysearch that
might work:
William Knight d Jul- Sept 1853 Abergavenny
William Knight d Oct-Dec 1859 Chepstow
William Edward Knight d Apr-June 1859 Newport
William Knight d 1856 Oct- Dec Monmouth
Of these the Newport is the closest and likeliest. Mary could have remarried
by 1861....
Just a thought- hope it helps. Diane in cold and snowy PA, USA

Hi Robin,
Have you tried asking this question on the Rootsweb-Mariners list? There
are many very knowledgeable people on the list, who are very helpful
with any ship-related questions. I expect you've already found pictures
and the history of the Scythia online, as there seems to be a fair
amount about the ship available.
Regards,
Sian

Hi All
I'm trying to track down a grave for my g-g-grandfather who died in November
1893 - his name was Thomas Pritchard and he's been a brick wall to me for
many years, this afternoon, I seem to have found a burial record for him but
as I don't know the area, I'm a little lost.
He was buried on 28 November 1893 in the parish of Llanelly in the county of
Brecon and his abode was listed as Nantyglo. The last address that I have
for him is on King Street, Brynmawr in the 1891 Census.
If anybody can help me find out where he might have been buried, or where I
should search next, I'd be really grateful.
Many thanks
Andrew
