Dear Listers,
I'm searching the 1861 census for the occupants of an address in Church
Street or Church Square, Tredegar.
According to Ancestry, there were 48 Enumeration Districts in the Tredegar
Sub-District.
Does anyone happen to know in which Enumeration District Church Street or
Church Square were located?
Many thanks,
John

been granted to his widow, Mrs. Jane Maria PARFITT, and Mr. Charles Edwin LEE,
of 17, Tudor-terrace, Merthyr, works manager. Testator left £200 to Mr. LEE, the
proceeds of sale of his plant, tools, stocks, stores, &c., at the Duffryn Works
to his wife, his brother George, and his sister Florence Jane LEE, and the
residue of the property he left in trust for his wife for life. Subject to her
interest and the payment of a few small legacies to nephews and nieces he left
the ultimate residue of the property to his brother and sister.
Mr. William Evan COUND, of 10, Maesteg-road, Tondu, who died on December 4, left

WELSH MINER'S BRIDE-Reported Marriage Of Woman Arnachist.
A cable from Montreal states that Miss Emma GOLDMAN, the anarchist leader known
as "The Red Virgin of the Revolution," has been secretly married to James
COLTON, Station Cottage, Glanamman, South Wales.
According to the cable, the bridegroom was born in Lanark. He has worked in
various Welsh Collieries and has been in the Labour movement for 35 years and
belongs to the Miners' Federation. He first met Miss GOLDMAN 25 years ago, and
then again in England in 1924.
Inquiries made at Ammanford show that Mr. COLTON will not divulge anything
without the consent of the woman, who however, has admitted that she has married
the man. It seems therefore, that she married him in order that she might have
the protection of a British subject.
Terence COSGRAVE, the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. COSGRAVE, of
Carramore, Radyr, has died at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary under distressing
circumstances.
On Saturday afternoon with his mother he was seated at a table in the Capitol
Cafe having tea. a waitress in the course of her duties, was carrying a tray,
on which amongst other things, was a jug of boiling water. By some means or
other the jug was upset, and the contents were spilled over the little boy, who
was severly scalded about the body and arms.
He was immediately conveyed to the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, where he died on
Monday.

Hi

eto live in Cwmcarn about 1920. She died about 1940-50 but I cant find the
entry on Freebmd Is it possible to search any other records for this?
Sylvia
Hello Sylvia,
I have attempted to search on the Death Index on Ancestry which is the full
list of Deaths registered but sorry there are so many named Mary A Powell
and searching the full ten years would be a very long search.
She may have died out of County if she had gone into hospital, and the
death would have been Registered there.
It would be far easier if you had more information on her which would
narrow down the search.

Loss of steamer EASTWAY.
Captain VANSTONE has a family of two young sons and a daughter, who reside with
their mother at 1. Chaucer-close, Cornerswell-gardens, Penarth. It is ten months
since he was home last, although Mrs. VANSTONE visited him in Antwerp two months
ago. She received a message from him last Monda y stating that he was homeward
bound, and the family expected to spend Christmas together for the first time
for many years.
Chief Officer J. W. MURPHY, chief mate of the EASTWAY was a native of Queentown,
Ireland. He came to reside at 9, Stallcourt-avenue, Cardiff, soon after his
marriage to the daughter of Mrs. Catherine DRISCOLL, a member of a well-known
Cardiff family. Mrs. MURPHY died ten months ago and there are no children.
Mr. W. M. COUZENS, the chief steward of the EASTWAY, is the eldest son of Mr.
and Mrs. William COUZENS, of 8, Howard-terrace, Cardiff. This was his first
voyage on the EASTWAY.
He recently wrote to his parents from Rotterdam and expressed keen
disappointment that owing to the strike he would be unable to pay them a visit.
He is 50 years of age and a married man.
A pathetic feature in relation to the missing cook, Mr. Wm. E. GEORGE, is the
fact that he is the sole support of his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs.Wm. GEORGE,
19, Roberts-street, Barry Docks. Thirty years of age, Mr. GEORGE signed on at
Antwerp, and was on the point of leaving for South Wales, when he heard of his
sister's illness. A re-assuring message from home, however, set his fears at
rest, and he proceeded on the voyage. The missing man had also adopted an orphan
girl.
Recently two brothers-in-law of Mr. W. E. GEORGE were drowned at sea in storms
on the coast of the United States.
BARRY WIFE'S PREMONITION.
That she implored her husband not to venture with the ill-fated steamer again
was the remarkable assertation of Mrs. Ambrose MANDY, of 33, Laura-street,
Cadoxton-Barry, who in an interview with a Western Mail reporter on Monday,
stated that a premonition of trouble just before the vessel's last journey
caused her to urge her husband not to return as boatswain.
Mrs. MANDY, who has been in delicate health for some time, is now in a state of
collapse, for she asserts that if her partner had heeded her appeals, he would
be alive to-day.
"He is forty-four years of age," she said,"and of French extraction. His mother
reside in Paddington, London, and the sad intelligence had not reached her yet."
Among the first reported missing was Pedro PERDREAN, a coloured man, of 40,
Peel-street, Cardiff, and one of our representatives had a shock, when making
inquiries at this address, he was greeted by PERDREAN. The latter displayed a
gold tooth in an expansive smile as he explained how he left the ill-fated ship
at Antwerp.
"Why did you leave?" asked the reporter.
"Dunno," said the fortunate man with another smile.

Swansea family living at 42, Walter-road, had an alarming experience early on
Sunday morning when, awakened by smoke, they found the rear portion of their
house burning furiously.
Mr. Daniel WILK, the owner and occupier, had his face and hair badly singed
whilst getting his wife and children down the burning staircase. Thanks to the
prompt arrival of the fire brigade, under Inspector EVANS and Sergt. KENNEDY,
the outbreak was quickly extinguished, but not before the contents of the
kitchen were completely destroyed. The damage estimated at £200. is covered by
insurance.
