A tram-car, carrying nine passengers, suddenly left the rails in Oxford-street, Swansea, on Sunday and dashed into a lock-up shop belonging to Mr. J. CAROL, Butcher.
Fortunately, the driver was able to apply the brakes to such purpose that the effects of the accident were greatly minimised and none of the passengers was injured.

The girl was a passenger in the motor-car, which was driven by her father.

There have been several messages to the list recently where the sender is
"testing" their email. Please don't do this. The list is for family history
research in the old county of Monmouthshire. There are around 300 members of
this list and each "testing" email was sent out to every single one of them
and has also now been saved in the archives of the list - it might only be a
tiny message BUT it still takes up space and it could be the very thing that
causes one of your distant relations to remove themselves from the list
because they don't like receiving useless messages.
There is no need for any discussion of this message, it is off topic but
necessary. Please send any comments directly to me.

G'day List
We have just discovered in the last week or so a death in Tredegar (Ty
Bryn) of a man who could be my wife's errant grandfather, John Henry
Denny. He died in Ty Bryn in May 1942. We are trying to discover where
he might be buried. Bearing in mind that he had been living in
Abertysswg, and that he was about 82 years old when he died and had been
a general labourer for much of his life, it seems unlikely that he was
very well off, possibly he was a pauper. Therefore, is it likely that he
was buried at public expense in in Tredegar Cemetery? If he was, are
records of interments there available, and further, where might they be
held. In the Rhondda, where I grew up, my family's interments are
recorded and held by the local library. Is this the case in Tredegar? I
cannot find an email address for the Tredegar Library to ask for myself,
only a telephone number.
Also, does anyone know where the records for Ty Bryn for the period 1938
- 1948 are held? In 1948 (or thereabouts) we understand that Ty Bryn
became St James Hospital which then closed about 1972. What would have
happened to the records from the period when Ty Bryn was first of all
the workhouse and then a hospital at a time when the workhouse system
was in disarray?
Hope that you can help.

Bedwellty Board of guardians records are quite poor. There are records for Ty Bryn but only from when it was an auxiliary military hospital in WW1.
Generally most hospital records are closed for 100 years.
Tredegar local authority cemeteries are covered by Blaenau Gwent Council who charge a fee to look up their records-see the council web site for details of search service, prices and contact details.

It's probably my fault; I was insufficiently explicit. I have a
current, fully paid up subscription. That's what makes me ineligible.
This offer is really being made as a carrot to those that haven't yet
bought a subscription.
