Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
An ordinary flatbed scanner will not damage your photos.
Basic software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements gives you the best
control for digitizing.
But,
Digital copies are subject to decay and degradation. So,
Keep your originals in a bank safe deposit box. I do, but I live in
California where the plates (tectonic, not photographic) occasionally
snuggle up against one another.
For those photos you decide are really important, have a photo shop
that still deals in film create duplicates or negatives. You can do
this yourself if you have good photo equipment, the right lenses and
a lot of basic colour film.
Another way of preserving is to send copies to everyone you can think
of. Redundancy increases the likelihood of survival.
Don't forget to include the LDS in Salt Lake City. You'll need
documentation and identification, but those folk are the most likely
to value such photos. And they have the facilities to preserve.
And if any are interesting, put them up on Flikr or one of the other
photo sharing sites.

The burial would still be recorded in the Parish Register if the burial was
conducted in that particular parish regardless of where the death took
place
When I looked at the site of Mike John there are years that are missing and
1822 is one of them.

Hi all,
I'm looking for confirmation of the Death of John Wright [who died in
2-12-1822]. He used to live in Bath, but he had two sons in Abergavenny,
William in 1821 and Thomas in 1822[16 days after his death]. There was also
another son ,William again who was born July 1819 and died Septemeber 1819,
again I'd be grateful if somebody would confirm that he was born in
Abergavenny rather than Bath.

What about all the transcriptions at

George; William appears not to have been baptised in Abergavenny.

Hello listers, I am researching the O'Brien family from Bedwellty and Ebbw
Vale, Monmouthshire.
Jeremiah O'Brien was born between 1855-1860 in South Wales according to
death certificate, parents John O'Brien and unknown mother.
And Married...
Ellen (Mary) Sullivan (O'Sullivan) in All Saints Catholic Church in
Bedwellty on 1st April 1882. She was born May 1861 in County Crk, Ireland
to James Sullivan (O'Sullivan) and Julia McCarthy.
After marrying and having a few children, they moved to the US - going
through Pennsylvania and Michigan before settling in Great Falls, Montana
for two generations. I have lots of info on the US side, but little info on
the Ireland/Wales side.
Addtl info: Jeremiah was a smelterman, and his family prior and after were
also smelters/welders.
Appreciate any help/insights people can offer. Thanks!!

Hello,
I'd be really glad of some advice about the current situation re scanners.
I have just been given quite a lot of old family photos - 100yrs old and
more! They have survived quite well but won't last for ever and I want to
preserve them in the best way possible. I used to believe scanners can damage
photos, but perhaps the technology has improved recently.
Any advice would be most welcome, please.

Hi George,
No you are not on the wrong list, I forgot about Mike Johns site but I have
looked at the list and couldn't find your Ancestors listed and regarding death
of John Wright the year that he died there is no records listed.

Hello George,
Because the birth took place before Civil Registrations of July 1837 there
is no searchable parish records on the internet, possibly a lister may assist
if they looked at the Parish records for the year you mention.

Hello Della,
Those that you have mentioned are in the Glamorgan locality, so it may be a
good idea to post the details on the Glamorgan mailing list where there could
be listers who may have knowledge of your Ancestry.
All the best

Dear Listers:
Many thanks for everyone's help in giving me new leads to pursue. It is
interesting to know the Thorp surname is from around Yorkshire. The
spelling of "Charls" and "Charly" also threw me off the trail, I guess. And
the
"iron fitter" was really difficult to read on the census sheet. I have sent
to GRO
for the appropriate marriage and death certificates and let everyone know
how it worked out.
