Hi list, please would sks be kind enough to look on the censuses for a
family of SCROBEZZA to include Nocholas/Nocolo, born Austria c 1850, Eliza wife
born c 1860, born Cardiff. They are on the 1881 in St.Woolos but I can't
find any trace of them on Find My Past.
The image would be much appreciated if at all possible
Many thanks
Ann
My great grandparents, George Albert Roberts and Ann (Hambleton) Roberts
were timber merchants in the late 1890's living at Gelli Inig Farm near
Pontywaun.
George died in 1900 in Pontywaun from pneumonia but I don't know where he
is buried. He and his wife were married in 1872 in St. Basil's Church in
Bassaleg.
Would anyone know how I could find his place of burial? His widow
appears in
the 1914 Kelly's directory as a farmer still at Gelli Inig Farm
(sometimes shown
as Gelli Henig or Gelli Unig). Thanks in advance.

Can anyone tell me if the Calvanistic Methodist chapel on Bridge St,
Blackwood is still there ? Is it still used as a chapel?

Dear Listers,
Incommunicado till 27th Feb
I shall be without internet access for the next few days because I am about
to move from my temporary accommodation in the Upper Swansea Valley into a
permanent new home in Brecon.
During the move, my website will remain on-line at its usual URL, but I will
not be able to update again it until 27th February, when my ISP has
transferred my ADSL broadband internet connection to the new address and I
have set up my computer equipment there. In particular, I will be unable to
update my Weather in Wales feature until 27th February. I have already
uploaded this week's Retrospective webpages.
Once settled in my new home, I will return to normal updating of my website.
Kind regards,
John

Dear Listers,
One day ahead of schedule, I have just uploaded next week's Retrospectives
onto my website. They include:
1. A walk along the cliff path overlooking Rhosili Bay and Worms Head on the
Gower Peninsula in the county of Glamorgan (twenty-five pictures). This
three-page 'Images of Wales' feature was first shown in August 2004.
2. A visit to the old Limestone Quarry at Penwyllt in the Brecon Beacons
National Park, county of Breconshire (eleven pictures). This feature was
first shown on 'Images of Wales' in October 1998.
As usual, these webpages will be on display for one week.
'Retrospective Images of Wales' is at
www.jlb2005.plus.com/walespic/retro/retro.htm
While there, take the time to explore my 'Webpage Archive' and make your
own Retrospective requests.
Kind regards,
John

If this Benjamin is yours possibly William his father listed in the above
Census records I located aged 16 living in Llanelly Hill with parents James and
Mary.
It would be great if you could locate Benjamin's wedding date and then you
would be back another generation knowing the name of his father from that
marriage certificate.
It's a shame that you know of no other siblings of John your grandfather
because it would be great to connect their births to possible date of marriage.
Regards Barbara.
Hi Barbara,
The family you found in the 1901 certainly seems to tick all the boxes.
Would you be able to forward the info you were able to find?
Many thanks,
Catherine.x
Hi Catherine,
No sign of a marriage but below could be your Benjamin and his family
Census 1901
William Edmunds age 52 Collier Hewer
Eliz Edmunds age 53
Benjamin Edmunds age 27 Collier Hewer
Frank Edmunds age 19 Collier Hewer
John Edmunds age 14 Collier Hewer
Alma Edmunds age 7
All born in Llanelly Hill and I have located William living in Llanelly Hill
with family back to 1841.

Hi Barbara,
These are all of the family names I have:
My father:
Robert Phillip Edmunds b.15 Apr 1949 Gilwern d.2 Feb 2002.
There is a brother Thomas & a sister Joyce.
My grandfather:
John Edmunds b.20 May 1919 Darenfelin, Llanelly Hill d.13 Jan 1962 Gilwern
buried St Elli.
Married Nora MOSS abt 1943.
>From John's birth certificate:
Father - Benjamin Edmunds, Coal Hewer
Mother - Emily Rees
My father told me that his EDMUNDS were from Llanelly Hill, which ties in to
my grandfather's birth cert. Were there any EDMUNDS in Llanelly Hill on the
1901?
Best wishes,
Catherine.x
Hi Catherine,
Have you any names listed below which may have been passed down to your
grandfathers family.
Jessie.
George
Elizabeth
John...already have this name
Florence
William
Ben...Benjamin
The reason why I query this is that I have searched the 1901 and have
located a family living in Knighton who may have relocated to Crickhowell.
Regards Barbara
Hi Steve,
I definitely like the look of Benjamin EDMUNDS to Emily HOPKINS! I'm
thinking this could have been a second marriage for Emily - or maybe she was born
'out of wedlock' - would explain why she was not named as REES. Off to search
for earlier marriage records straight away!
Best wishes,
Catherine.x
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for taking the time to search the index - I've been through the
marriage scans from 1920 back to 1900 twice in the last couple of days & nearly
went cross-eyed! It's reassuring to know that I didn't overlook them.
I'm afraid I have pretty much zero background info for my father's line. My
grandfather, John, died in 1962 when my dad was just 13 (Dad had no
knowledge of John's parents other than the EDMUNDS were from Llanelly Hill). I have
asked my father's siblings, but drew a blank there too. The only real info I
have is from John's birth cert, so his parent's marriage cert was the
obvious next step - without that I could end up following someone else's line.
I'm fast remembering why I started with my mothers family a few years ago -
much more chatty - lol.
Best wishes,
Catherine.x
Hello Catherine,
I have searched the full index for a few years before and after John Edmunds
was born but no marriage record as yet, being that Benjamin was unable to
write it could be that the surname was given incorrectly and also Emily may
have been a second name used by John's mother.
Was John the first born child and were there any other siblings born
afterwards, and had they always lived in the Registration District of Crickhowell.
And being that the first world war ended just over 9 months before John was
born, had Benjamin been involved in this.
Regards Barbara
A relative of mine adopted in the 1920's by a family
in Chepstow named KELLY. Information from the
Chepstow Board of Guardians registers shows she was
"adopted by Mr Kelly of the Constitutional Club at
Chepstow". Family talk is Mr Kelly later lost his
life on the railway line at Chepstow. Any info on Mr
Kelly or his death appreciated.
