Roch/Roach/Roche
by Sanders, Bob (DECWL - BDD)
I also have Roch/Roach family in Monmouthshire who eminated from
Pembrokeshire. My great grandfather Henry Roch was master of Abercarn
Works School in the 1860s. He was born at Sheerness, the son of Michael
& Jane Roch/Roach. Michael was a shipwright in the RN dockyard, Pembroke
Dock, but transferred temporarily to Sheerness in 1836/7 which is why
Henry was born there. Henry trained as a teacher at Borough Rd., London
and then after teaching in Pembroke Dock, Neath and Frampton Cotterel
(where my grandma was born), he got the job at Abercarn. He died there
of phthisis aged 36. His children continued to live in the Abercarn area
and there are descendants in that area still, though my grandma married
and lived in Cardiff most of her life.
Any connections would be of interest.
