Hi Judy- read your question via Monmouthshire mailing list and must say
it is the first I have seen asking about the James family. Wether it is
my James family remains to be seen. My Great Grandfather, Abraham James
was born in Raglan Monmouthshire in 1833. He was the son of Charles
James (born in Llanellen Monmouthshire son of Charles James & Margaret
Thompson) & Ann Farr who was born in Raglan. Abraham was convicted of
highway robbery and transported to Western Australia. I still live not
far from where he lived and raised his 10 children. I will wait on your
reply- Jan James >

Barracks, Caerleon (MON)
Dear Listers,
This week's 'Retrospective Images of Wales' webpages, just uploaded onto
my website, include:
1. A walk on Cribarth Mountain near Craig-y-nos Castle in the Upper Swansea
Valley in the county of Breconshire (seven pictures). This feature was first
shown on 'Images of Wales' in February 1998.
2. A visit to the 1800-year-old Roman amphitheatre and barrack at Caerleon
in the county of Monmouthshire (nine pictures). This feature was
first shown on 'Images of Wales' in November 2000.
As usual, these webpages will be on display for one week.
'Retrospective Images of Wales' is at
www.jlb2005.plus.com/walespic/retro/retro.htm
While there, take the time to explore my 'Webpage Archive' and make your
own Retrospective requests.
You may be interested to know that this week, 'Images of Wales' celebrates
its 10th anniversary, representing a decade of continuous presence on the
World Wide Web. The very first 'Images of Wales', displayed on 23 November
1997, featured a digital photo of Cefn Cûl in the Brecon Beacons mountain
range.
Kind regards,
John

I am new to the list looking for information on Frances BRAY (b 1792 Exeter,
Devon England) who married Charles JONES (b 1786 Caerphilly, Glamorgan,
Wales). I know that somehow they are related to John BRAY and Ether with a
son named John born in 1806 because these names were left by my ggandfather,
Thomas Wilkins JONES, in his things. Does anyone know how these BRAYS could
possibly be connected ? I know Frances and Charles lived in Monmouth on the
1841 and 1851 censuses. Thanks, Susan

No buses from Cwmbran to Raglan. There are buses from Abergavenny to Raglan.
They used to be every hour.
There are Buses from Newport to Monmouth which stop at Raglan but
Abergavenny is the nearest rail Station. The only problem there is the
distance from the rail station to the bus station.

I think it was simply "Llanover" in 1800 when my family
moved into Blaenavon. But later on the part which
intersected Blaenavon was called "Llanover Upper". I
presume "Llanover Lower" was then the colloquial name for
the families that lived closer to the Church, which was
about 5 miles from Blaenavon (I walked it both ways in 1950,
which I bet the family did every Sunday until the church was
built in Blaenavon in 1806) I am not certain the Upper or
Lower were ever officially part of the name of the parish.
They never were separated.

A typo. Hugh meant to write "...with PROCAT as..."
To fend off your next question;
PROCAT being an acronym for "Public Record Office CATalogue", although
it's no longer (offically) called that. It can be accessed from the
TNA web site at

Morning
Please, an answer to this quest :-
I read with interest about KEYWORD 9 used it and have found another
rellie .. Great, Thank you.
I have looked at Ancestry and can not find a List of Keywords and
their meanings.
and their answer to Keywords on the Ancestry site do not list these functions.
Can someone please explain the use of Keywords or point me to an explanation
Best wishes
John
I think it was simply "Llanover" in 1800 when my family moved into
Blaenavon. But later on the part which intersected Blaenavon was
called "Llanover Upper". I presume "Llanover Lower" was then the
colloquial name for the families that lived closer to the Church,
which was about 5 miles from Blaenavon (I walked it both ways in
1950, which I bet the family did every Sunday until the church was
built in Blaenavon in 1806) I am not certain the Upper or Lower were
ever officially part of the name of the parish. They never were
separated.

Hello
The many people who are eagerly awaiting the latest book of pictures and
information about this area will be pleased to hear that 'CRUMLIN TO
PONTYMISTER OVER THE YEARS' by Brian Collins is now available from
_http://www.oldbakehouseprint.co.uk/_ (http://www.oldbakehouseprint.co.uk/) and from local
shops.
I must state my interest in this book, Brian Collins is my brother, but as
all the author's profits are donated to Ty Hafan Children's Hospice I feel I
am not out of order in mentioning this and his earlier books, both published
by Old Bakehouse Publications - 'CRUMLIN TO PONTYMISTER THEN AND NOW' (with
Terry Powell), and 'CRUMLIN TO PONTYMISTER PLACES OF WORSHIP' which has
Brian's own drawings of the churches and chapels.
Marjorie
I would prefer to look at the individual concerned
and see what distict is on the image in conrtext
I enjoyed practiucing with PROCATas it used to be called
I first learned about it in 2002 whilst we waited for the 1901 census
site to be repaired and reopened
it takes about 3 weeks daily practice . . . .

William Jones B 1836 Llanishen and wife Ann had children Louisa 1860, George
1864, James 1866, Stephen 1870, William 1874 and Ada 1877 all born

Does anyone have interest in this family?

Hallo List,
Having now received the latest round of certificates of
rather a letter saying the 3 year sweep was unsuccessful, I
have decided to go back to the beginning and double check
(if not more) everything and cut out all previous
assumptions - 4 years worth.
The first thing to check, if someone would be so kind, is
exactly where 'Llanover Lower' came under in 1881 as this
was the residence of my female interest.
The male interest - 'Goytre' is clearly on Genuki as
Pontypool.
Many Thanks
Gillie
