Greetings all.I think I may have found my elusive ancestor William Mckinley COULTHARD after all in 1841.Or rather,Some kind soul did.
So I don't have to go on Safari into darkest Scotland after all.
My man may have been hiding in Co;Durham.
Later 1851 census searching, may prove one way or t'other if I'm on the right track,or "Barking up the wrong tree?"
Many thanks to all.
Cheers,Graham.

I'm not sure if there's any issue with the records being closed for a number
of years, but I certainly had no problem getting the details for someone who
went in in 1868 and died in there in 1912.
Best wishes

Hi list,
a compilation of records dealing with Settlement , Removal, Bastardy, Apprentices and Rogues and Vagabonds has and is being compiled, it contains the names of folks from your area located far from home in the middle of England.
Take a look you may just discover a lost relation.

Thanks Ann,
If there is a 100 year closure on those records, and she was admitted prior
to the 1901 census, then I should at least be able to get some of the info,
shouldn't I? Up until 1905 or thereabouts?
Thanks again, Jon

Hi listers,
Can anyone advise me if there are records in existence for the above Institution please?
My interest is in this record from the 1901 census:
1901 census
Monmouthshire Lunatic Asylum, Abergavenny:
Elizabeth Cooksey, patient, married, aged 37, a labourers wife, born Blaenavon
The intriguing thing about this is that her husband, George Cooksey b1842 originally of Frampton cotterell in gloucestershire is shown on the 1901 census living with his son George Cooksey (head), daughter-in-law Annie, granddaughter Edith, along with his own son, Tom who is shown as brother to the head of house. The confusion sets in where George (b1842) is shown as widower, and not married??? Until yesterday, I thought that Elizabeth Cooksey had died between the birth of Tom in 1893 and the 1901 census. this is evidently not the case.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
Kind regards to all,
Jon

Subject: Old Maps
David Hale of Mapco is making Lewis's 1840 map of England & Wales available
on-line free here;
http://archivemaps.com/mapco/lewis/lewis.htm It is an
incredibly detailed, extremely high quality map.
The original comprises four separate maps. Three of these have already been
added to the site and I have just been advised by David that the final one,
the south-east region will be added by the beginning of next week. I suggest
that anyone with an interest in that area bookmark the site and check back
then.
Clicking on a section of the map produces an enlarged image in four segments
each of which can be clicked on to further enlarge that particular segment.
The individual segments can be downloaded (for personal use only). Despite
the very considerable additional work this entailed, David chose this format
in order to reduce file sizes which would otherwise be far too large to open
or download for people with dial-up connections.
I have no connection with David or his site other than a great admiration
for his efforts in making this truly tremendous map available on-line for
all to see and use.
There are also many other old maps, charts and engravings either currently
available on the site or in the pipeline for addition later this year. Some
of the London maps currently available are especially fine.

Hello,
I recently saw a parish map for Monmouthshire and was wondering if anyone
knew where to look for one for Glamorgan, swansea, Merthyr Tydfil? I am from
Pennsylvania USA and don't have a frame of reference for locals. I'd like to
see where the local of an ancestor's birth was. Was it close to Monmouthsire?
Did people emmigrate out of that local? How would I obtain birth for Merthyr
Tydfil and marriage records for Pontypool?
Renee
I couldn't find mine for BARRY either in Pontypool. Is there maybe another
place to look?

Hi,
I wondering if SKS who has access to the Trevethin church parish records
could look for the Christening of a Philip Jones, father John Jones.
According to Philip's 1856 marriage certificate, his father was John Jones,
collier, and he was a 30 year old bachelor, which would make his year of
birth 1826. He is listed as being born in Pontypool in several of the
census.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ernest Alfred Lewis Greenway was born in Llanelli Glamorgan/Carmarthenshire in 1862. I have found him in 1871 with his family in Newport and in also in 1901 living with his brother in Bedwellty. He is not with his family in 1881 or 1891. I can't seem to find him anywhere. In 1871 his named appeared on the census form as E.A.L Greenway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Listers,
This week's 'Retrospective Images of Wales' webpages, just uploaded onto my

Hi Janet,
I've had great success on the ancestry.co.uk 1841 census.
Once logged in, click the "recent additions to the database" link, and 1841

Hi everyone
I'm looking for someone with local knowledge of the Argoed / Oakdale area.
I'm trying to locate St Phillips and St James Church. I've got a map of 1886
which shows it between Gwrhay and Cwmcorrwg, but when I went to have a look
the only one I can find is St David's church. Any help will be appreciated.
Regards
Steve
