Hi Listers,
I hope someone can help me break through a brick wall.
If a death occurred in Llanhilleth in 1953; in which newspaper would notice
of the death, or funeral be published? That's assuming that it was reported
of course.
Regards
Michael.

Is there any index available for convicts transported to Australia ?
The last years of transportation was NSW and QLD (Morton Bay) 1840; VDL
( Tasmania) 1853 and Swan River (Perth) Western Australia 1868. Effectively
the latter was the last year convicts were sent here.
Hi Linda,
Yes, it was under the Parish of Bedwellty, and people do get confused
because there was the Parish of Bedwellty and a little Hamlet named Bedwellty, and
the Parish was large, but when you see place of birth as Bedwellty it
normally applies to the Parish and not the little Hamlet of Bedwellty further
research on your part by obtaining certificates will allow you to see exactly where
in the Parish they were born/married/died.

Hi Everyone
Is anyone out there researching the LEWIS family from PORTSKEWETT. I have a David LEWIS who married Ann HOWEL or HOWES in 1731. THeir children as far as I have are Mary 1731 & Thomas 1735 both born/bap in PORTSKEWETT. Mary maried Edward ANTHONY in 1754 PORTSKEWETT. Not sure who Thomas married as there wasn't a marriage for him. Not sure if this LEWIS family is connected to the ones in St Pierre. Any help on this family would be greatly received.
Thanks

Is it possible to find out the residents of a particular street at a
particular time? In this case I'm trying to find out who would have resided
in Wilcae Terrace, Raglan during the years 1940-1945. I'm particularly
looking for a widower by the name of Morgan and hopefully her Christian
names. If anyone does have access to the records I remember names such as
Price, Tucker and Startup (I think) being there during that period which may
help.
Alan Moore, Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia (nowhere near the cyclone
thank goodness!)

I think Allison possibly has found the birth to match the census entry I sent -
the age on the census is unclear and it is possible that it originally said
something like 12 mns, and the 12 has then been over-written by a thick 1,
without the rest of the entry being altered to indicate year rather than months.
Unfortunately, of course, the birth indexes show that she is a Kathleen Mary,
not Kathleen Maud.
Regards
Barbara
I tried a wider year search and came up with this - the only one:
Woodman Kathleen Maud Burton Upon Trent.6b 447 Birth 3 1896
Hope it might be the one you want, Christine, (though the age at death
doesn't fit). It would explain why she could not be found in Wales.
Best wishes
Allison

Ann, thanks for your reply. I recall dealling with the 'Gold Tops' address,
but think it was just to enquire about the parents before purchasing a
certificate.
If ten percent were not transcribed correctly Ann, where are the originals
recorded, and are they still available?
Thanks again
John

Hello Monmouthshire list' back again after a long break.
Same old subject though; still looking for the birth registration of my paternal grandma, KATE MARION HUGHES. Born supposedly at Glenview Terrace in CRUMLIN, in August 1888.
Her father was LLEWELLYN HUGHES.Her mother SARAH ANN HUGHES nee WILLIAMS.
KATE'S siblings on either side were registered; one in 1885, then a stillbirth, then KATE, then a sister in 1890.
I have checked all the Kate's that look as though they could be her on '1837 online' When sending for the certificate with the caveat on the parents, they do not match.
I wondered if there are some fiche still around that perhaps were not transcribed correctly. I have NO idea what district the CRUMLIN births were registered in. ROGERSTONE!! perhaps.
I think that this will be my last effort on this front. I think the 'old man' probably got side tracked on his journey, and that KATE was never registered.
kind regards
John

Thanks to Lorraine, Janet and Kate for all the info.
It is definately somewhere to start. I really need to
find a business listing for that area, perhaps if I
could pinpoint the business that was behind the
Britton Undertakers, I might be able to get the name
of the garage/electric place. I have a feeling that
perhaps my elderly cousin got the name incorrect.
Thanks again Regards, Sarah

Hi John,
I searched for her and on the 1891 she is listed as being born in 1888 aged
3 born Mynyddislwyn but on the 1901 living with her family still at Glenview
Abercarn she is listed as being born Crumlin 1884 aged 17 and this is the same
person, I also found her marriage in 1908 would it not be best to obtain her
marriage certificate and then you would have a rough idea on what year she
was born.
The Registration District would be Newport.

I've had a look on the Times Archive for this - reports of Monmouth trials
along with those elsewhere are a good source of info. The only Edwards
criminal I can find is a John Henry Edwards who got 10 years transportation
for picking the pocket of Rachel Evans at Newport Railway Station and taking
a purse containing a £5 note and 3 sovereigns. This was in the Times on Aug
6 1852.
Whilst there I also searched under Sarah Chambers Parry Nurse Tredegar
Morgan Funeral in various combinations but no luck at all.
